Owners Angry After Cops Shoot Dog in Backyard
NBC ^

-snip-

But Samuelson's neighbor, Fernando Perez, said he told the cops several times that Ozzy was roaming in the back.

When the security alarm system at the home went off, Samuelson called Perez to check it out while she made the 20-minute drive to her house, he said. Perez said he knew not to go into the backyard because of the dog and when officers arrived, he warned them.

"'Be careful. It’s a big dog,' I told them. They told me to go back to my house," said Perez, who repeated the warning several more times. "Before I get to my driveway, I hear the two shots. They walked into the backyard with the guns in their hand. Then they ran from the backyard like they were scared or something."

Samuelson said she got Ozzy to protect the house and deter thieves. Police have not said what triggered the alarm.

"He was our protector," Samuelson said. "He’s a huge part of our family."

Maybe the mob of shooters were holding the dog hostage and they accidentally killed him when trying to take out all the shooters?

[bet that’ll be their cover story, soon...the dog was just in the line of fire]

Not stationary anyway.

Criminals know, if they run through a yard first, they will probably get through the yard unmolested.

But the cop following up will be the one attacked by the angry dog.

Like hubby told his snickering friend after I’d told him I’d blow his head off if my dogs got hurt because he’d left my damn gate open *again*....”Just shut the gate, boy. She’s NOT kidding.”

He -never- came here afterwards that he didn’t extremely carefully make SURE that gate was securely closed behind him.

He’d even shove against it 2 or 3 times, just to be positive.

I wonder if cops are now taught that is is OK to shoot pet dogs. Would not surprise me in the least.

Suppose there had been a shooter back there and the police were distracted by the dog.

I'm sure that your hypothetical shooter would've had his hands full dealing with an angry 140-pound Rottweiler and probably would've gladly surrendered to the police to get away from said dog.

Ya know, I gotta say, I just love these idiot congress critters who think the Constitution is irrelevant. We had one here in VA a while back and he was a “Republican”! They just don’t know history, I guess, ‘cuz the whole thing was based on “natural law”. Hence, the TRUE meaning of “liberties” is things gummint can’t stop me from doing, like carrying a firearm. It can try to punish me fer it but it can’t stop me.

“Good work”? Did you READ the story? The cowardly pair ran away after shooting the dog! They did not even bother to go in the “cleared” yard.

It’s gotten SO bad that I’m afraid to take my own damn -support- dog with me everywhere like he was intended to do because I live in fear of a traffic stop.

If a cop reaches into the truck, he’s going to draw back a stump.

If I refuse to leave the truck for fear of what he’ll do to the dog, the dog is NOT going to put up with a stranger pulling me ~out~.

God forbid the cop do something like toss me around or throw me down and cuff me.

My dog will die doing the job he was trained to do.

[and I seriously doubt all the freaking “Support Dog” patches on his working harness will ever be read by any cop *first*]

WTF kind of world is this??

Can you blame them?

There might have been a shooter in there who -wasn’t- scared of the dog.

They’re not gonna wanna face *that*.

Unfortunantly, the time of a constitutional government is nearing its end.

And a slaughter is coming because of it.

TOM CATS you need a pair of eye scratching, jugular biting TOM CATS to go with the dog. If they grow up together as puppies and kittens they will very likely get along together just fine.

I hate to say that while I pray every day that it not, the things the congress criminals need to do to avert it don’t seem to be in their repertoire of behaviors...

Suppose there had been a shooter back there and the police were distracted by the dog. Lives would be lost.

Think a bit about what you posted. A guard dog. A shooter who is a stranger. Knee jerk much?

Odin is 2, already.

Judging by his reaction to the cat adoption cage at his vet’s office, I really don’t think he’s particularly overfond of them....;D

[it’s a pity, really...he could’ve easily carried them in his “saddlebag” harness]

Oh, dear God.

I could only read a little of it.

This was a cop killing his OWN dog:

Cockfield, 55, was originally charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty and a felony count of a killing a police dog, which could have cost him his law enforcement certificate.

But Thursday, prosecutors conceded that they had not proved Cockfield intended to kill Duke when he kicked him during an ill-fated training session.

At Hartman’s request, Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Antonio Arzola tossed out the felony charge, but allowed the lesser count to stand.

Miami-Dade prosecutor Isis Perez said in closing arguments that Cockfield viciously and fatally kicked the Belgian Malinois during an “obedience control” session at the department’s training bureau.

Frustrated with Duke for barking and not obeying commands, she said, Cockfield lifted the dog up by his leash, choking him, and then delivered a series of swift kicks.

The dog yelped and died of a disruption to his heart rhythm, Perez said. She downplayed Hartman’s contention that Duke posed a threat to Cockfield. Several officers who testified against Cockfield did, too.

“Not one single witness who sat here said that Duke was attacking him,” Perez told jurors Friday.

But Hartman argued the case was a “freak training accident,” and that Cockfield was simply defending himself from an overaggressive, dangerous dog. His methods were standard training for K-9 officers, he said.

[”lifted the dog up by his leash, choking him, and then delivered a series of swift kicks” is “standard training for K-9 officers”?!?]
