Palin's window closing as Republican race gains steam

The clock is ticking for Sarah Palin, and her time is almost up.

With Mitt Romney and Rick Perry taking control of a quickly shifting Republican presidential campaign, Palin may have already missed her best chance for a late entry in the race.

"I think the window for Palin is closed, and every second that ticks off the clock things get more and more difficult for her," said Craig Robinson, a former state party political director who runs the Iowa Republican website.

"People are really ready to say this is our field of candidates, these are the people we have to choose from," he said. "They are growing frustrated with Sarah Palin's game of peekaboo."

On another visit to Iowa last weekend, she told reporters she was happy with the field of Republican candidates and quickly added: "I always think there is room for more."

But with the first nominating contest in Iowa less than five months away, little time is left to organize a national campaign, hire a staff and raise the money to compete.

The once unsettled battle for the Republican nomination to challenge President Barack Obama in 2012 has taken shape with last month's entry of Perry, the Texas governor who has roared to the top of the polls with strong conservative support.

Perry zoomed past Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, by appealing to the same coalition of social, religious and Tea Party fiscal conservatives that Palin would target if she gets in the race.

"Now that Perry and Romney have begun to draw the battle lines between them, I don't think there is any room for Palin in the campaign," said Republican strategist Rich Galen. "She's still a big personality, but she's not a potential candidate."

First they say the window is closing, as if everything is set, then they say “a quickly shifting Republican presidential campaign”. Either it’s set or it’s fluid. It can’t be both. And I read no farther than that. If the first two sentences are that illogical, it ISN’T going to get better.

What!

Don’t you see she is trying to be a different type of politician?

It doesn’t matter whether she would repay the dept with a favor, she would be accused of it because the media hate her!

I’ll wait until she says she isn’t running and then back Perry. Until then I will support her because I have no other choices!

Sweet!

Does this look like a woman who gives a flying flip what out-of-work strategists think?

Sarah has the deep pockets of individuals. At every stop, she hangs an ice cream bucket out her bus and collects those donations.

No question that she’s learned a lot since her well-earned drumming during her first run.

You are confusing indecisive with unpredictable, and in combat it is a fatal mistake.

Palin is now a master strategist and tactician, and she's enjoying this.

wonderful. now for the next $998 million. since they say O will raise $1 bill

Ten million people donating, on average, $100.00 to Sarah Palin's presidential campaign will equal $One Billion.

Ten million contributors is not such a stretch, considering she alone pulled in the second half of McCain's 58.3 million votes in 2008, and in 2010 she rallyed the greatest Republican gains in 80 years and the greatest conservative gains in the history of the USA.

Her campaign won't require that much money to run. However, the impact on the establishment opposition of her raising that much money will be profound.

For comparison, the RNC currently has about $40 Million in cash and $24 Million in debt. It is costing the RNC sixty cents in fundraising costs for every dollar raised. The RNC doesn't have enough money to run one Senate campaign in a medium-sized state. At this point of the election cycle, the RNC should have close to a Billion in reserves, and they don't. Ordinary Americans have turned off the money valve to the establishment.

When the RNC dudes call, I politely explain to them that I won't be contributing to either the RNC, RSCC, RCCC, or to any establishment candidates. My money is going to Sarah Palin and a few other conservative congressional candidates. Their reply is that they are hearing a lot of the same message.

As a long time, read between the lines, Limbaugh listener, he left me with the impression that he’s done waiting.

Those were my thoughts as well. I've heard Rush praise Palin many times, this time he was praising Bachmann - and he did use the term "Palin's indecision".

As usual, Rush was right, Michele Bachmann was great last night - I admire her for having the courage to enter the race and participate in the debates.

I agree. Hard to tell whether she is really enjoying it, but it is serious business; just as serious as Ike's planning for the invasion of Fortress Europe.

and while she is outsmarting us, the country is being destroyed bit by bit. When it suits her, maybe she will let us know what the h#ll she is going to do.

She said she’d decide. She didn’t say she’d tell you.

She said she'd tell Hannity along with everyone else.

Can't you guys just admit that she did say that she would announce by early September, but now has decided not to do what she said?

Those are the facts. Can you deal with them?

[they are all waiting with enthusiasm for her word, which is no more than 3 weeks away!]

Ah yes, the “Second Coming”, and we have heard that for the last 9 months, “You just wait, she is going to announce next month.” (9 months later, she is still, “going to announce next month.”)

And she is now out if ideas on how to steal attention. The Bus Tour had several flats, her upstaging Romney, Bachmann and Perry on the days they announced their candidacies, completely backfired, her grandstanding at the Iowa Caucuses lost her more support than it was designed to gain. But more importantly, even many of her die hard supporters are starting to head over to Perry's camp. (The money definitely is.)

I believe Palin’s next move will be to step up and try to occupy the stage with Perry, like she did for McCain in 2010. Since she seems to always want to be in the center of the spotlight, she can get that back by promoting his obvious success as a candidate.

BTW, with the dithering and the announcing of this and that and by NOT engaging her fellow protaganists, she is becoming a CARICATURE of herself. It is not amusing, it is not attractive, it is a tired strategy, and it is deadly. You are probably a reasonable adult—open your eyes. Let the truth in.
