I also firmly believe that to be eligible to be president, one simply needs to be born on American soil.

But go to Wikipedia under “natural born citizen” and you see:

“There is general agreement that the term encompasses, as a minimum, anyone born on U.S. soil to U.S. citizen parents.”

“general agreement” my arse! I tried to edit it to leave out the words “ ...to U.S. citizen parents” but it got rejected.

I think the key is “at a minimum” meaning that it is the strictist definition (embraced by some here as it is Vattel’s). However, in this country James Madison said that “place is the more certain” criterion, and the Supreme Court holds that we follow jus soli, as seen in multiple cases.
