Candidates have to be able to raise and budget funds effectively. They have to build organizations in most if not all states. They have to debate other candidates and argue their ideas with them in public forums
The reasons I see given for Sarah not getting in I read as: she doesn't want to do what it takes to be a candidate.
For months, I've said I want everyone who could beat Obama to run, to get in and fight for it, so that we could see how good, or bad, a candidate they are and would be in the general election.
I like Sarah, but it's time to enter the race.

So that they will be beholden to the big money people rather than the voters?

Palin, and really, only Palin has presented the issues and her platform for all to see in writing and in public address.
No professed candidate is prepared to debate Palin, because the platform points that she has expressed are exactly the ones that they had hoped to ignore completely, and figured that the LSM would be happy to assist them in that goal.
That is exactly what these fake debates with restricted questions are all about.

What??? - She is the only candidate that has done anything of significance, and she is doing it constantly: Hitting the pretender in the offal orifice with real, well thought out commentary on his failures and devastation of the country.
