“or start selling off spare organs.”

Damn. That is one of the most creative solutions to crime I’ve ever read.

You commit a violent crime, we harvest your organs so better people than you can live.

Brilliant.

This has actually been explored in science fiction...but it always turns out badly, like losing a kidney for speeding, for example.

Still, I’d love to hear the liberal explanation as to why the victim or any of us have to pay for the damage done by this idiot. That would take A LOT of hand-wringing and probably ending in something like the victim and society deserve it because they created the perp.

Larry Niven wrote “Organlegger” in the 1970s - everything was a capital offense to generate the necessary supply of replacement organs for the Baby Boomers. A guy goes down fighting the system after getting the death penalty for his third red light conviction.
We could certainly take a kidney, lobe of the liver, bone marrow samples - and especially frequent blood donations for those disease free.

it is alleged that this happens in China.
So, if you end up on prison for a misdemeanor, or a thought crime, and your blood type is the right (or wrong) one, you could end up with an essentially capital punishment for your crime.
I could never be in favor of this, or any permutation of this.
