Palin’s not using anybody. She’s being smart about not entering too soon given that the media will focus on attacking her from the hour she announces.

Sarah is a Fox News commentator. Back in March, Fox fired Newt and Rick Santorum as commentators because of their intent to run for president due to conflict of interest concerns. At the time, Fox did not terminate Sarah's contract because at the time, Fox determined she had not taken any action that indicated her intent to run for President.

Back in June, the executives at Fox News met with Sarah during her bus tour. Apparently, Sarah reassured them that she was not running for president, because they did not terminate her Fox contract.

Now, if Sarah is campaigning for president, as many of her supporters openly agree, or if even if she has decided she will run, isn't she being unethical by not notifying Fox News? Isn't she getting money from Fox News under false pretenses as well as giving herself the ability to continue to appear on Fox News as a commentator when other presidential candidates cannot? What does that say about her honesty and principles?

If Sarah is not running for president, then there is no ethical problem. But if she has reassured Fox News that she is not running for president but does not tell her supporters, what does that say about her?

No, Fox had clear criteria for when they would cancel a prospective candidate’s contract (e.g., having filed an exploratory committee) and Palin hasn’t met them.

I presume she confirmed with them when she would have to resign or be suspended, and she hasn’t met that yet. Fox still gets great ratings from her and there’s no reason for them to want her to quit before she has to.

I have no question that she’s preparing to run, but up until the time she does she’s still open to new information (e.g., a dire cancer diagnosis) that would keep her from running.

Meanwhile I expect this could well be her last week with them. Maybe she’ll comment after tomorrow’s debate, but I doubt we’ll see her appear much more before she declares.

How do you know she hasn’t informed them? Haven’t seen her commenting lately. They haven’t even aired her speeches as other news networks did. Maybe she and they agreed to some kind of a secrecy clause until she announced. Or maybe when they had their big meeting this summer she said she’d let them know when she knew. Just because you don’t know something doesn’t mean the two of them haven’t talked or don’t have some kind of agreement. Honestly, I doubt they’re going to say, “Hey, we gotta tell CA Conservative because we don’t want anyone to think we haven’t talked.”

Where is the transcript of that meeting between Sarah and the Fox Execs? I suppose you have one, since you seem to be very sure about it happening and about what they discussed.
