Texas Gov. Rick Perry came out swinging today in South Carolina, making his fiercest hit yet on former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and his record as a job creator.
There is no one going to be sitting on that stage who has the record of job creation that I have, Perry said at Rep. Tim Scotts, R-S.C., town hall in Conway, S.C. Monday morning. Theres going to be some that get up and say Well Ive created jobs, and thats true. Theres one in particular whos created jobs all over the world, but while he was the governor of Massachusetts, he didnt create very many jobs.
The two were set to appear at Sen. Jim DeMints Palmetto Freedom Forum in Columbia, S.C. Monday afternoon, but Perry, who overtook Romneys position as front-runner in recent polls, cancelled his appearance to attend to the wildfires scorching thousands of acres across central Texas
Im leaving directly from here and going back to Texas. Our state has got wildfires that are running quite wild and zero containment right now, and the winds are supposed to pick up again. So just keep those folks in your prayers if you will as we go back and try to get people out of harms way, Perry said. Pray for rain as well.
The Texas governor, who is the third candidate to participate in Scotts presidential town hall series, answered questions from the crowd ranging from his commitment to pro-life issues to explaining where exactly he stands on gun control.
Im actually for gun control use both hands, Perry quipped.
Perry, whose book Fed Up! has drawn scrutiny in the past week, did not back off claims he made about social security in his 2010 book.

Perry will do until we find someone better. I suspect if it were pointed out to him in a factual way, he would be on board with electing the new SOB. So far, that perfect candidate just hasn’t happened.
Pray for some rain in Texas cause you know the Beltway crowd wouldn’t give them the sweat off their federal...
When did Perry create a single job?
Did he get businesses to open in his state? Doesn’t that create jobs for state residents?
Yes, of course you are correct /s
All the other contenders have created jobs out the wazoo.
Do you believe Obama is destroying jobs?
I watched the entire question and answer session and was impressed. At present, Gov. Perry is my top candidate.
(Im actually for gun control use both hands, Perry quipped.)
Using humor is so Reaganesque.
(yes - I know this is mostly propaganda, but it has had some positive results)
At this point I don’t trust Governor Perry. I hope I’m wrong.
Of all of the Palin supporters you are among the most honest and honorable.
Thank you.
Socialist, government does not and never will create jobs, they have no money until they force you to give them yours.

Thus far, I haven't heard any deal-breakers from Perry. He's squishy on illegal immigration, but that may be more about tactics; favoring job site enforcement over physical border security. (Which is a big mistake on Perry's part, by the way. A border fence is about more than job-seeking Mexican nationals. It's about those categorized as "Other than Mexican" by ICE.)
Perry's right on what the State can do to create a job-friendly environment. He's so right that Democrats in Sacramento are howling about how Texas is "stealing" jobs from California.
He's right about gun control: A two handed grip really is a good idea. : )
And an intangible that Perry has on his side is that all the right people within the GOP establishment are pissed at him.
If someone comes along who can improve on Perry (i.e. understands the importance of a border fence and other border defenses, but isn't single-issue nutty on the matter), then I'll kick Perry to the curb. Until then, let's not let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
Perry stressed his commitment to balancing the federal budget, ridding the country of over taxation and over regulation, and downsizing the federal government, including reforming the Department of Education and Department of Energy.
If you want to leave the education department there for a while to be a repository of best practices, I could get along with that, but the fact of the matter is they have not educated one child, just like the department of energy has not created one bit of energy.
These are reasons I'm leaning Perry.
Thanks. The trouble is, in our area, due to the hardened clay soil, a solid week of rain might cause more home foundation problems.
It sure would be nice though to get a good 6 hour drizzle every day or two for the next month.
Perry = socialist government
seems logical?
I am not trying to attack Perry, but trying to gauge FReepers' opinions on how politicians "create" jobs.
As an entrepreneur who pays no attention to what politicians do or don't do in deciding to hire or invest, I am always amused by such claims by either party. Thanks to those of you who tried to answer the question in the vein it was intended.
