CYPRESS, TX (KTRK) -- Charges could soon be filed against a dog owner whose pet mauled an infant to death in northwest Harris County over the weekend.
Deputies were called to a home in the 16500 block of Cypress Bridge near Barker Cypress and Huffmeister around 9pm Saturday. Two-week-old Brayden McCollen had been in a swing in a room, alone with the 100 pound dog.
An adult was home at the time with three other children. That person heard the loud noises and ran into the room, but investigators say Brayden had already been badly injured.
The newborn was airlifted to an area hospital, but did not survive.
There is some discrepancy on what kind of dog attacked the baby. Animal control officials say the dog is a Pit Bull. The Harris County Sheriff's Office report has it listed as a Labrador retriever mix, with further specification.
The dog was taken by animal control and will be quarantined for the next 10 days. His fate will be decided after that. According to the family, the dog had never showed any signs of aggression before.
This case is being referred to the Harris County District Attorney's Office to see if charges will be filed.

That is both responsible child supervision and responsible dog ownership.
Kudos to you!
If more people practiced both, we would have fewer of these tragedies in the news.
I am not a pit bull defender but 100 pounds is rather oversized for a pure pit bull. There are other breeds that look similar but reach a larger size. Pit bull is supposed to be the American version of the Staffordshire Terrier, a breed which should not be larger than 60 pounds. Of course many Americans think the only thing to breed for is size, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear of a 100 pound Chihuahua being bred by some kook.
Some other freeper posted an article a month or so ago about a breeder that had pits starting at 100 pounds to 150 adult weight. I followed the link to read about them, but alas, I forgot to write down the name of the breeder and his web site....lots of pits go over 50 pounds...
re: my post 43, found the name of the breeder but have not direct link.....BIGGEMINIKENNELS.COM Pits at 150 pounds...
Shoot the dog; hang the owner.
They can call them whatever they wish but there is a standard for each breed and that is more than double what a big pit bull is supposed to weigh. One hundred and fifty pounds is what a St. Bernard should weigh.
You misinterpreted my post entirely.
I was pointing out that this would be the excuse for the ignoramuses to leave the dog near their baby, and it is the excuse you ALWAYS hear when a senseless tragedy like this happens, which is directly caused by human stupidity.
Since they list the blood lines, they are pit bulls no matter what the standard says...My sister had a St Bernard that went over 200 pounds, of course the bitch was spoiled rotten when it came to eating...ate everything in the house except the people....cost her a fortune....but a sweet dog..
I had some woman lay that line on me earlier today...I told her to make sure she had a good grip on that leash, as there are a number of cats in our neighborhood. "Oh, he would NEVER hurt a fly."
Bullsh*t. You can't predict what ANY animal would do from one minute to the next.
