Sarah Palin runs half-marathon incognito in Iowa

Doug Adams, the former potato chip salesman who founded the Iowans4Palin website last year, was asleep Sunday morning at home in Storm Lake, Iowa, when his wife, Diane, woke him up with a panicky phone call.

“She was squealing,” Adams said Sunday night. “I was kinda scared.”

Diane told him to get down to the lake post-haste. Sarah and Todd Palin were there, and Sarah was about to run the half-marathon. Diane had risen early to walk the course.

Adams thought his wife was joking at first, since they had just returned the night before from Indianola, more than 150 miles from Storm Lake, where they’d trekked to watch Palin’s "tea party" speech Saturday afternoon. On Friday, they’d also attended a Conservatives4Palin meetup in Urbandale, where the Palins made a surprise visit. At both events, though, the Adamses were pretty disappointed that they’d been unable to get through the crowds to meet the former Alaska governor.

I think she’s waiting until she sees the whites of their eyes. Her strategy is maddening to some, but smart. Staying on the sidelines keeps her name out front in a large field. When Perry fades back to the pack, which will happen of course because he is an opportunist, and not a true conservative, she will announce and in short order be in the lead and win the nomination wire to wire.

Not a huge field, but 2nd for women 40-49, and something like 7th for all women. Her time is way better than my best. I remember Runners World got a lot of crap for featuring her in its monthly celebrity interview, but she’s a real runner and deserving of congratulations.

Sarah Palin with Diane and Doug Adams after running a half-marathon in Storm Lake, Iowa, on Sunday. (Joni Wulfekuhler)

(UPDATE: According to a report in the Des Moines Register's 2012 Iowa Caucuses blog, Palin ran under her maiden name of Sarah Heath. She was the second-place finisher among women 40-49, with an official time of 1:46:10.)Source

Did you read the comments at the end of the article? People are unreal.....jerks

Maybe at the beginning, but (it's several hours now from your post -- the wee hours, in fact!) as of I think 112 posts, it's a beautiful thing to see so many jump in so firmly to defend Palin and call the jerks on their ignorance and venom. And more than a few liberal posters admit that they're pretty impressed with Palin's time.

Very interesting comments, and very encouraging and cheering, IMO!

My favorite part tidbit in the story, and what I didn't see in the earlier posts/threads about Palin being in the run, is that she started out in the back with the walkers, took a real low profile, and then quietly left the walking folks and around them, up to the front. One of the posters at the LA Times site noted that it looked like a pretty good strategy!
