On the campaign trail, 2012 presidential hopeful Rick Perry plays up his humble roots as a dryland cotton farmer from rural Texas. He rarely, if ever, mentions that he has become a pretty savvy real estate investor during his more than 25 years in office.
The Fort Worth Star Telegram reports that Perry's income has soared as he has climbed the political ladder in Austin, thanks largely to a handful of lucrative real estate deals that have made him a millionaire.
When Perry was first elected to office in 1985, as a state representative from Haskell, he and his wife Anita were far from rich, reporting a total income of $45,244. To save money, the future governor shared an apartment in Austin with two other state lawmakers, while his wife worked as a nurse.

-"the permanent political class theyre doing just fine. Ever notice how so many of them arrive in Washington, D.C. of modest means and then miraculously throughout the years they end up becoming very, very wealthy? Well, its because they derive power and their wealth from their access to our money to taxpayer dollars. They use it to bail out their friends on Wall Street and their corporate cronies, and to reward campaign contributors, and to buy votes via earmarks."
Help us understand, you just signed on with FR to join the PDS coyotes pulling a ronpaul bash on Perry and pretend to be a Palinista?
That is sort of the same ol subversive ronpaul/DU/DNC style looks to be.
If you can’t ADD something positive for YOUR candidate might be better to mozie on newb.
How did Romney get his? Did Romney grow up poor?
What’s not talked about? The deals they didn’t talk about? The rest of Perry’s life and upbringing? Anything else he does on the side (promoting Big Brother/Sister)?
Probably not many real estate investers, big or small, from the fake Palin supporter ronpaul camp, but buying and holding property 3 to 6 years ain’t exactly cashin in on insider tips. Any real estate investing near Austin is just good sense.
You folks might also want to background your sources a bit more before throwing lib MSM hit pieces out as gospel, which are clearly not supportive of any conservative. Then again fact reporting was not your obvious purpose.
American Dream = Start poor. Get rich.
Liberal Dream = Start poor. Play victim. Stay poor. Vote for us so we can whine about how poor you have stayed.
LOL! Excellent reply.
Thank you for that info Mitt
Those who are against you, you will label them DU and other garbage etc.
I see similarity in Obama and Perry. Why someone want to replace Obama with Obama ver2.0 ?
Mitt Romney and his campaign committee has been trashing anyone who is not Mitt Romney.
How did Romney get his? Did Romney grow up poor?
He must have gotten it off is daddy running AMC straight into the ground. He was a great businessman you know
Because that is evil in the mind of a liberal...
Everybody that had property at Horseshoe Bay made tons of money on the land.
“In 2007, Perry sold a parcel of land in Horseshoe Bay for $1.1 million. He had purchased the lot in 2001 for $314,770”
(yes - that was smart investment)
The resort and lakeview homes are phenomenal.
I have been there and it was fantastic. Views are breathtaking.
Austin Real Estate went wild in the last 5-10 years.
I have flipped quite a few houses/properties and made money on every one of them. Lots of money on 2 of them.
I sold a house 2 months ago. On day 5 we had 3 contracts.
Only had it for 2 years and again made money off of it.
(one guy moving from Chicago, one couple moving here from Calif and another couple from Arkansas)
Perry is probably the candidate with the least amount of money.
But don’t let that stop any of you - just keep throwing your darts. The more flaming he gets - the higher in the polls he gets. So, keep it up.
Honestly... what makes Perry just an Obama 2.0 to you?
If the man did it honestly it’s what America is all about—or used to be. The potential problem for Perry is perception. Too many politicians are poor upon entering elected office, but leave rich.
If those lucrative real estate deals were devoid of political taint then more power to Perry. I seriously doubt it, though.
When I smell smoke I know there is a fire burning somewhere.
He is scared too..but we all know that..We cannot let that man even get close to being president..I can’t put my finger on it but the man is no good and he is for himself and no one else.. We need to stay with Sarah and or Rick Perry..both if that is possible..I have nothing negative to say about either Rick or Sarah..People need to stop trashing the two main candidates we have..neither would appreciate it.. If it all came down to those two then the democrats would all die of a heart attack..
