The Framingham Police SWAT Team accidentally shot and killed a grandfather during a drug raid this year.
The MetroWest Daily News reports that an independent review has cleared officers of any wrongdoing.
Eurie Stamps Sr., 68, was shot while lying face down on the floor during a raid on Jan. 5.
A SWAT officer was moving to restrain someone else, when he lost his balance and accidentally shot his rifle, hitting and killing Stamps.
The MetroWest Daily News says the report criticized the SWAT team, but found that they were well-trained in their right to have the safeties on their weapons turned off.

Uh-uh
The town is expecting to defend a wrongful death suit from Stamps' family.
BL’ers should have fun defending this one............
Yeah what a bunch lies and coverups that article contains. They are so rushing to cover their butts one has to wonder if they are hiding a first degree murder.
BS ping
At least bring the guy up on charges of man-swatter.
Precedent for when one of us slips and accidentally shoots a union member LEO.
Wife's patched up numerous SWAT guys that have shot themselves.
They are really unprofessional weapons handlers.
OHHGEEZGOLLYWOW!
Now let me see: Gramps is trussed up on the floor, hands cuffed probably very TIGHTLY behind his back.
Rambo wannabe jumping around with HOT weapon, (after all, maybe some slim ball just MIGHT jump outta the closet)and, with HIS DUMB ASS FINGER ON THE TRIGGER, lets go and caps the oldster, trussed up, lying on the floor.
Nothing criminal here!!!!
This dumb f**k should be prosecuted for CRIMINAL STUPIDITY!!
But, he IS a bureaucrat, and therefore, cannot be held accountable for anything dumba** that he does.
What the hell have we come to?
They have this crazy 'points" system (known as a SWAT threat-assessment matrix) they use to determine whether or not the use of a SWAT team is justified. No common sense or accountability. They can probably fudge the numbers to suit their purpose anyway.
How is that wrongdoing when they “accidently” shot someone who should not have been shot?
How is it NOT, I mean
It was a preventable accident - on more than one level.
So SWAT has a right to waltz around with safety off, and finger on the trigger? Who gave them that "right"? And what's the corresponding duty that goes along with that "right". How many more "rights" will be found as more negligent manslaughters are racked up? Joe Citizen would be lucky to cop a plea to unintentional manslaughter, along with being easy pickings in a civil suit.
I'm so glad we're being protected by our self-selected elites.
Ooh, the swat team was criticized. That’ll show ‘em. An AD resulting in a death should result in officer F**kup getting booted to the curb or at least permanently polishing a chair with his butt. Of course the city’s liability insurance will pay for his mistake.
Does anyone recall a SWAT team that wasn’t cleared, no matter what they did?
Ever?
I can’t think of any off hand.
Soldiers sometimes accidently kill bystanders when engaged in combat.
I would have thought a Drug War supporter would see it in that light.
I read the article. What a stinkin' load of crap, and their chief and the "independent expert" are both morons. Not even the sleaziest lawyer could convince a jury to let a citizen go free using a system like that. I don't know what the rest of their "threat matrix" looks like, but it's apparently an excuse not use your brains and common sense.
I hate to break the bad news to liberals, but just because they proclaim their police to be our elite overlords, the laws of the universe still apply to them, too. This is one waiver 0bama can't grant.
As with us poor subjects, stick your finger in the trigger guard, and the weapon WILL go off, even for the anointed appointed. The "expert" is dead wrong. A safety can only prevent firing when the weapon is dropped, or suffers some rare mechanical failure. It is not there to allow the cop to stick his finger inside the trigger guard during stressful moments.
The shooting was negligent, and the whitewash disgraceful and total BS. Are our "elite" so elite they can do away with common sense, and use some secret checklist instead?
I am in Afghanistan and we always have our safties set until needed. You never leave your finger on the trigger, always next to but not on...ever. I think Barney Fife should only get one bullet from now on. The army does not believe in accidental discharges and neither should our police forces.
Yes they do, but this is entirely different. This SWAT team are not soldiers in The War on Drugs, they are members of a local police force who think they are military because they have military boots etc.
How difficult is it to flick the safety off on an M16 before you fire it? But NO, they have permission and training to have the safety off. This rule will cost the taxpayers some large money.
shooting innocent people? Nah, I'll leave that to the drug addled liberaltarian pedophiles.
