Deadline reality being what is, however, I do not see any other such candidates showing up for the fight.

We haven't reached a deadline yet. But the press is sure whipping people into a frenzy pretending that we have. This deadline meme is press driven and so many fall for it.

When I say "deadlines", I am not talking about Labor Day. The first "drop dead" deadlines that is coming up is October 31 (Florida primary filing deadline).

However, declaring is only the last step of an entry into the race. Before that, the money men have to be lined up, the most competent campaign managers and staff have to be lined up, etc. Perry spent months doing that before actually declaring.

Yes, we have a couple of months before the "drop dead" dates but I just do not see any strong conservative candidate on the horizon doing the logistics required to run a successful campaign and win.

Some posters keep bringing up the fact that Reagan declared in November but Ronald Reagan already had a powerful, professional, well organized political machine in place long before he declared. That was also back before the Internet was invented and back when dinosaurs ruled the Earth. We live in a totally different world now. In the 24 hour news cycle/Internet world of today everything is on "Fast Forward".

As far as the Palin campaign infrastructure (or the complete lack thereof), her supporters brag that she does not need one because her grassroots supporters do not need those "Establishment professionals".

So, what happened the last few days?

A probably well-intentioned amateur, that Crow fellow, does the best he knows how, naively makes a few mistakes, then the long knives come out for him and he is viciously attacked for "sabotaging" Palin and accused of being a operative for an enemy camp, etc.

You can't have it both ways. You can't say that you do not need professionals and then attack your well-meaning amateurs for not being professional.

Phony "Trump campaigns" and "Newt Gingrich campaigns" for media attention are a totally different animal. Anybody can jump in at any time and clown around in front of the TV cameras without any professional staff at all. That's fine. As long as everybody realizes that such a candidate is running to seek media celebrity and not running to win.
