Rick Perry's campaign just responded to the attack ad that a pro-Michele Bachmann super PAC unveiled last night, which it is airing in South Carolina, and which hits him on his spending record as Texas governor:
“Gov. Perry is a proven fiscal conservative, having cut taxes, signed six balanced budgets, and led Texas to become America’s top job-creating state,” said Ray Sullivan, RickPerry.org’s communications director. “Congresswoman Bachmann’s front-group ad is patently and provably false. Unlike Washington, the Texas budget is balanced, does not run deficits and limits spending, even as Texas added jobs and population in big numbers.”

Thanks for your thoughts, but I really didn’t see normy as any kind of victim nor do I feel like any fiddle. I think he / she stands pretty tall in his / her walk, and I enjoyed talking with normy in this thread as I did talking with you.
normy has actually helped me to see that FR people are great people that may not always agree but that it is nothing to worry about much in the long run as the right route for our country DOES rise to the top somehow, even when we have to bicker a little before it does.

Should Rick Perry be blessed with the nomination, I’m not sure I’m up for a Perry - Romney ticket. I can’t stand Romney, and I can’t see Perry side by side such a metrosexual egomaniac. Besides, wouldn’t he only have to pick Romney if he felt he needed him to win the election, and I don’t think he would need him for that. Perhaps others may disagree.
Also, there was a thread yesterday with an article announcing Rick Perry has pledged he would choose a VP who is not only pro-life but is a passionate pro-life activist. I can easily see that being someone like Marco Rubio or Rick Santorum, perhaps a number of others. I don’t think Romney would quite fit that bill nor would I believe ANYONE could label Mitt Romney as an pro-life advocate. While he may have flip flopped to say he is pro-life, I’ve never seen anything to indicate Romney is passionate about that issue.
BTW, that pledge would, I would assume, disqualify Rudy Giuliani as well (as some were concerned he might be on a Perry VP list) but it could include Mike Huckabee??????
I can tell you that after seeing the path Michele Bachmann has taken here and her dirty little deal with the devil Romney, I don’t want to see her as a VP pick for Rick Perry. If Michele Bachmann wants to hang her hat on Mitt Romney, let her go down with him!
The easily harpooned factual distortions are bad enough on their own. What's worse is exploiting the bad pic of Perry in the cliche stereotype cowboy hat while the d00d with the fake Texas accent narrates those distortions.
The pseudo-bubba is telling us that Perry is a fiscally irresponsible, big spending, dumb cowboy - gosh it must be true. We're all st00pit after all.
One would expect more from a serious contender and her "super PAC" than that pile of patronizing BS.

Actually not all of those examples were gaffs. But the gaff thing is not really the issue with you, is it?
Fact is, politicians make gaffs all the time. Amazingly like real people. Those who are gaff-free are so scripted one never does get a sense for who they really are. Moreover, in the give a take of every day politics are you really trying to tell me that none of those you adore with precious executive experience have ever gaffed. If you truly believe that I have a nice bridge in Brooklyn I can sell you cheap.
In debate your argument is called specious. It is a device used to redirect debate to the trivial or away from areas one does not wish to discuss.
I’m still curious as to who the wonderfully experienced and gaff-free person is that you support.

For example: So-called former demrat. Gore campaign chair. Vocal gobal warming supporter. Recently signed hate speech bill. Open border proponent.
I believe these concerns far outweigh the occasional mistake of a name, date or number.
I do agree that we don’t need another drama queen in the WH.

I’m falling into the trap of settling on a candidate way too early in the game. It’s the same thing I’m being critical of others for doing.
Actually, of those committed to running and those still making up their minds, I had settled on Palin or Bachmann for pres. Palin remains my first choice in the absence of any other info.
I distrust Perry because of his past demrat associations, his recent signing of a hate speech bill and his belief in open borders. And I view with suspicion how he’s managed to capture the airwaves since the Iowa caucus. Not to mention his Romney ties. I believe the GOP is setting him up to take a fading Romney’s place. To me that puts Perry squarely in the RINO (aka demrat) camp.
I like Cain or West for Veep.
I agree 100% and I don't see this as any fear. I think Dame Peggy Noonan has this one right in her WSJ column today: Perry and Romney's First Face-Off ...

Again. More reasons to like Governor Perry.
You need to look at the returns these investment brought Texas. This are nothing but good, solid business practices that brought jobs to Texans, not corporate welfare.
BTW the 2003 Texas Leg introduced this fund and it has to have the signatures of the Gov.,Lt. Gov, and the Speaker of the House for every transaction.
In case you’re wondering about defaults or other problems. Case in point:
“In 2004, they authorized the fund to grant $20 million to Countrywide Financial in return for a promise “to create 7,500 new jobs in the state by 2010.” The grant (all of which are approved by the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor and Speaker of the House) is one of the largest made from the fund in terms of the size and the number of jobs promised. In the fall of 2007, while slashing jobs and with its stock price plummeting, Countrywide was eventually acquired in a fire sale by Bank of America. But thanks to the “claw-back” provisions in the program, grantees return all funds to the state for jobs not created.”

Alright here’s my response for your position.
Governments shouldn’t be picking winners and losers? That is NOT capitalism. Corporate welfare only enriches the oligarchy, governments subsidizing multi-billion dollar corporations to give them an advantage against smaller companies that can’t compete does not improve the marketplace? It only diminishes it by reducing overall competition.
This obscenity is by no means conservative, this is the same policy in which China and Airbus uses to under cut Americans in general but Perry has instituted it to undercut neighboring states. If done at a national level it would clearly be socialistic and ignite trade wars with our allies. It would also diminish salaries for of most ‘average’ workers and place America in a 3rd world manufactuering status like India and China.
Is that good for america?
It happens in the business world every day. There were large and small companies on that list but, the larger ones hire the most Texans.
Not going to hold it against Perry for something the entire Texas legislature pushed it’s chump change for the return and one of the reason Texas is where we are today.
We are trying to create jobs here, right?
That’s the thing though, you’re not really creating anything meaningful. your stifling the engine of innovation to promote sameness and to pick winners and losers and providing an unfair advantage to giants that already posses a naturally unfair advantage.
Small business can create jobs as well. what you get with Rick Parry is a socialist frankenstein of what artificial life support of an economy looks like.
