True. But I think that (for whatever he is concocting, not just my scenario) is what the joint session of Congress is for. He’s going to toss his Big Idea to them, and if they pass it he will take credit, and if they do not he will use that to run against Congress in 2012 instead of the Republican nominee. Either way, Congress is walking into a trap.

I can't conceive of a "Big Idea" he can come up with that would do some good and NOT piss off his base.

Not if nobody—or anybody that wouldn’t have voted for him anyway—likes his Big Idea. Which is likely at this point, I’d say.
