News Talk Radio 710, WOR announced today that David Paterson, former Governor of the State of New York, will take over afternoon-drive hosting duties on the station beginning on Tuesday, September 6. The program will be heard weekdays from 4 til 6pm, and will extend the stations successful only local News/Talk content and branding used in the morning on The John Gambling Show (heard weekdays from 6-10am) to the drive home.
During his frequent stints as a fill-in host on WOR, Governor David Paterson proved to be a favorite with our listeners throughout the tri-state area, said Jerry Crowley, Vice President and General Manager of WOR. He was the obvious choice to be the man behind the microphone as we extend our locally-focused drive-time programming to the afternoon.
Damn! I finally got my WOR/WABC schedule settled. Malzberg on WOR is way better than Hannity harping on WABC. As soon as Rush on WABC goes off, I switch to Lou Dobbs on WOR and stay through Malzberg and Savage.
Malzberg used to be on WABC — I hope they pick him up again. LET HIM REPLACE THAT BORE JOHN BATCHELOR!
Perhaps the final nail in the coffin of a once-great radio station. Hard to believe, but when John Gambling’s father handled am drive for WOR, the station was #1 in New York City. Patterson will be the biggest bomb in talk radio since Mario Cuomo’s foray into the medium back in the 1990s.
Incidentally, the CEO of Buckley Broadcasting (which owns WOR) died earlier this week. Hard to believe that (A) He signed off on this move and (B) the Patterson flop will be his final legacy as a broadcaster.
