Story in the
Boston Globe today described a grudge going back to the Salt Lake Olympics. Perry (Eagle Scout) had requested that the Boy Scouts be allowed to serve in a certain sort of highly-visible volunteer role at the events. Romney gave him the Heisman, saying rules prohibited those younger than 18 (i.e., most Boy Scouts) from serving in that manner. Perry holds that Romney really made the call because the Boy Scouts were getting a bad rap about prohibiting gay Scout masters, which was big news at the time.
So there you go. Sounds like Perry has it in for Romney for using a sea lawyer excuse as a way to avoid a political pickle.
