I just heard Perry on Hannity’s show, and he said that one of the main reasons that he joined the GOP was b/c of Ronald Reagan. Yeah right, he loved Reagan so much that he voted for and worked for Carter and Mondale, and then went on to chair Algore’s ‘88 Presidential bid! I smell a rat, and it stinks. Bob

I believe Perry stated that he did not vote for Mondale.

Also, the 1988 era was the last of real conservatism within the democratic party. Zell Miller was there, and I believe even Sam Nunn was still around someplace.

These were pro-military, anti-Soviet, anti-communism democrats of the old school. Al Gore pretended to be one of them.

Like ME, Perry realized that the democrat party had become anti-life and anti-American and he left that party.

The question you have to ask yourself is: “What if all this is true, and Perry really is leading, and Perry really does become the nominee?”

What do you do then?

That is true. He is a liar. Had he changed parties in 1984 then it would be a true statement but since he was a full Democrats and wanted Al Gore to win the Presidency then it is a bold face lie.....I am not surprised though.

Before you speak please research. Reagan was also a former democrat; he reached across the aisle, he had moderate magic with values of a conservative.I am not cheerleading Perry necessarily but I am sick to death of people on this forum bashing Bachmann,Perry and screaming RINO former democrat; ONLY to promote someone that is not even running. If one person calls Cain a RINO and says Sarah is running blah blah I will call each and every post out!If Perry is so RINO why did Palin endorse him? He can’t be that bad or worse than McDemocrat or Romney!I prefer Cain or Bachmann West-I WISH over Perry but you can bet your sweet patootie ABO will be voted for.We can’t change the ponzi scheme rat fest and republican sell outs over night. Imagine Obama four more years! It ain’t going to happen.

Carter/Mondale... didn't they come after NIXON?

Lots of people jump the ship after NIXON. Republicans were NOT a popular party in that time. Learn your history.

I never read whether Perry worked for the Dukakis-Bentsen ticket in 1988 or not. If he did, that probably explains why GHWB endorsed KBH for governor in 2010.

Wrong! So wrong! Perry was on record back in 2010 as clearly stating that the last time he voted for a Democrat for president in the general election was in 1976 when he voted for Carter. He admits he was fooled by Carter - Southern Democrat, farmer, Christian - he though Carter was a conservative Dem.

Concerning working for Al Gore in 1988:

“[John] Sharp countered by noting that in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1988, Mr. Perry was co-chairman of Mr. Gore’s Texas campaign. Mr. Perry acknowledged that but said there was a ‘push to get a conservative Southerner’ elected president.” (Sam Attlesey, “Link to Bush separates Perry, Sharp,” The Dallas Morning News, 9/15/98)

Sorry, the facts do not bear out your contention. Perry voted for Reagan twice and for Bush41 over Dukakis, all before becoming a Republican. He was a "Reagan Democrat", like so many other Southern Democrats.

Now that you know the facts, I assume you will cease making this scurrilous charge and apologize.
