From the Evidence i've seen, it is quite likely he was adopted under Indonesian law.

But even if he was, the Indonesian laws in effect at the time would not of automatically granted Obama Indonesian citizenship.

The Question is, was he adopted under Hawaiian Law? When his mother abandoned him in the early seventies, and he lived with his grandparents during that time, it is likely that he WAS adopted under Hawaiian law, if not earlier by Lolo Soetoro, than later by them.

With respect, that makes zero sense. Obama was back in the states by 1971 and never lived with Soetoro after that, so why would Soetoro go to the trouble of adopting him in a foreign country? A country he was not living in and had no plans on living in. And why would grandparents formally adopt a grandson? To what purpose?

It may very well have. I have seen it reported repeatedly (which of course doesn't make it necessarily true) that under Indonesian law, if a Man marries a woman, Children under five are automatically adopted.

If the commonly repeated meme (that Adoption is automatic for children under five) then it was no trouble at all for Lolo. Other pieces of evidence that Indicate Obama was adopted under Indonesian law was his name on a school ledger (again, another meme is that only Indonesian citizens could attend Indonesian schools) His crossed out name on Ann Soetoro's passport (Soebarkha) has been alleged to mean "Son of Soetoro" in the Indonesian language. (I even have a link for that.) and the fact that he was listed on the Divorce records as being still a dependent of Lolo. Put it all together and it makes a decent circumstantial case that Obama was adopted in Indonesia.

To gain legal guardianship and undo any damage caused by him being a naturalized Indonesian citizen.

Sven Maggnuson, (sp) has several times postulated the theory that Barry became the client of a Child Repatriation organization headquartered in Connecticut, And that they are responsible for getting the abandoned children of Americans back on a sound legal footing in this country. He points out that they could get a social security number for Barry (from Connecticut)as part of the service they performed.

I don't know about the whole theory, but until I see some more information yea or nay, I am keeping it in the back of my mind. In any case, it is reasonable to think the Grandparents would acquire some form of legal guardianship during the many years they had Barry after Stanley Ann left him with them.
