Volunteer firemen do. Should be more of them and less of the professionals who seem to retire terribly early, claim disability at a torrential pace, and receive amazing benefits from the engagement... while doing a lot of sleeping around the firehouse.

Point is I don't know why a select group "deserves" a pension for work they are already paid well for. That's how you end up with 200K a year lifeguards who retire early with lavish retirement packages and then try to defend them what challenged... I might however not argue against the military...

Nobody should be getting pension or any other benefits from their employer. They should be getting the net present cash value of their labor, to be allocated according to the individual’s own choices and priorities. If they make the wrong choices and need to beg for charity or starve, that’s their choice.
