Alabama's illegal immigration law will go into effect this Thursday, but protesters in Montgomery are pushing forward to have their voices heard in opposition to what's considered the toughest crackdown on illegal immigration in the country.
Hundreds gathered at the capitol steps to oppose Alabama's new illegal immigration law, which will go into effect in just four days. The majority of the people in attendance were families and some said they are worried that this new law will break up their family.
"I don't like this law, because I think it is going to tear my family apart," Edward E. said.
Edward's children were born in the United States, but said he and his wife do not have papers. So his family is hoping that in these final days, something will be done to change this law on illegal immigration. People gathered to hear words of inspiration from state senators and religious leaders.
Alabama senator Hank Sanders said he is ashamed of the law.
"I spoke out against it when it was up against the legislature," Sanders said. "I did my best to try to stop it along with some others. We weren't able to do it. It's the wrong spirit. It's a mean spirited law."
Some people held signs asking Governor Robert Bentley how they will be able to keep their families together under this law.
"If some of the kids are legal and the parents are illegal, they're thinking about deporting the parents, but the kids, where are they going to stay?" Mario Quintero said.
Although the future is unknown and their legal status may be called into question, those in attendance said they want to stand up for what is right and to have a better life.

No one’s going to split up families. Is there any country that does not allow people with citizenship to live there with their children born in another country?
Kids belong with their parents. Parents belong in their legal nation of citizenship. The parents made the decision to complicate the family, no one else.
I do wonder how the following will stand against previous court ruling on “Plyler” (http://www.enotes.com/supreme-court-drama/plyler-v-doe )

“to require public schools to determine the citizenship and immigration status of students enrolling; to require school districts to compile certain data and submit reports to the State Board of Education; to require the State Board of Education to submit an annual report to the Legislature; to further provide for eligibility and requirements for voter registration;”
IF Marco Rubio eschews the Arizona law then this one must truly get his dander up.
Hispano Primero...otra vez!
If the Illegals are granted amnesty, they will be able to collect Social Security...which will end up bankrupting the system after all.
What will the politicians do?
Simple. The kids have dual citizenship. They can go with their parents.
“Round ‘em all up, throw ‘em into one huge holding cell, throw away the key.”
No argument from me. Sounds like an excellent idea. Let’s get a national referendum on that.
“Reality or no, the Obama Justice Dept. along with some caring judge, will put a halt to its implementation, asap.”
Probably, but if those worthless a$$holes in black robes we refer to as the Supreme Court would get off their collective asses the kids would be as illegal as the parents. These laws work, just look at Arizona even with much of their law o hold. And now the Mexican “states” along our southern border are complaining that they don’t have the resources to handle their own citizens who are now self-repatriating because they fear being caught. As bad as the Executive and Legislative Branches are, the Judiciary is twice as bad at all levels.
How about if you aren’t legal, then the kids aren’t legal?
You can take them with you then, and remain one big happy family. :)
Tell Edward he is illegal - and if he feels so strongly about the law, he should write out a T.S. Slip and take it to the Chaplain ...
Everyone might want to step back a step and review the whole situation. As of this weekend, there are no training programs in existence for Alabama state police or any state attorney personnel over the new law. They’ve admitted this. Until such a program is brought into effect...not one single effort will be made to enforce the law. If you look around for comments by Alabama law enforcement, they are all hinting that they expect a federal judge to suspend the Alabama law before it takes effect.
Every country in the world that has an illegal alien problem, and resolves to do something about it, deports the parents and the kids can follow, which they usually have not choice but to do. Sorry. Actions have consequences. 5. 10. 15. 20 years down the line. But the law is the law and actions have consequences. They damned well should have taken that into consideration when they came up here and then had their "anchor babies."
Talk about removing a subject from a predicate.
It means YOU ARE DRIVING ILLEGALLY BECAUSE YOU DO NOT HAVE YOUR LICENSE WITH YOU OR HAVE NO LICENSE TO BEGIN WITH.
You are not an undocumented driver, your breaking the frikking law and the fact you dont have "documents" is entirely do to your own actions.
This political correctness has got to stop. If I wer a LEGAL IMMIGRANT to the USA, I would be fit to be tied what with this sense of brash entitlement these parasites and freeloaders have.
(shouting in general here, ms_09, not at you!) ;-)
Too bad some folks with balls didn’t drive through with bullhorns claiming to be ICE and announcing a raid.
How much do you want to bet that “Edward E” made those comments through a translator?
Anyone found not having passed both will be subject to "Class C Misdemeanors!"
The radio announcements include that one will be "subject to arrest and jail" if they are found to be in non-compliance!
How's that for "fair and equal justice," jump our borders, use fraudulent documents to get jobs, welfare, food stamps and medicare - nods and winks from the President on down, fail to receive training on guns that you will never own nor use, off to the hoosegow with you!
