“...German households can’t afford to finance hobbies for their children...”
-
My hobbies as a lad?
Pretending a stick was a gun and playing cowboys and indians.
Making a fort out of hay bales.
Daming up a sandy creek.
Making a house out of a big corrugated box.
Fishing.
Reading.
Baseball in the cow lot.
“Red Light”, “Simon Says”, and “Hide-And Seek”.
None of those things cost any money.
Hobbies are easy! When I was a kid our hobbies were making and flying kites, fishing, camping, catching fireflies etc. None of those hobbies cost any money to speak of.
Then we found a few Playboy magazines and we had a REAL hobby :0...one that you can practice throughout your life!
sports, music lessons, computer games
These are the modern day hobbies and they are extremely expensive since kids think they need to have all the latest crap now days.
I had all those hobbies too.
That and whittling. Dad found an old rusty pocket knife and gave it to me. I cleaned it up and cut stuff.
Dad and I would both be felons if we did something like that today.
Uh, um, let’s see...George soros had a great hobby as a kid..turning Jews into the gestapo.
I just had to throw that one in.
Today your hobbies would be:
1. stick=gun, cowboys and indians - violent, no guns allowed, racist.
2. Fort = military, violence. Might hurt yourself building it or playing in it.
3. Damin a creek - Eco criminal, EPA, Dept of Natl Resources fines and punishment.
4. House out of cardboard box - only allowed if you’re seeing what it’s like to be homeless.
5. Fishing. Again, need license, may snag endangered fish.
6. Pickup baseball game - too competitive, no adults telling everyone they’re all great, nobody to umpire and bring snacks nobody wants to eat.
7. Red light, Simon says, etc - all games where people can lose. No adults to supervise.
Of course I played these kinds of things too, but today ain’t yesterday.
