Was at church earlier and a friend there (who’s stepson is in the military and situated 140 miles inland in North Carolina) said an entire shopping mall complex collapsed inward on itself earlier. And, again, that’s 140 miles inland.

The latest reports are that Irene is 500 miles wide.

Not sure if I believe the warnings are overblown.

Let’s see how many folks say that 24 hours from now.

Well no offense - but there were no hurricane force winds 140 miles inland. That shopping mall must have had termite problems.

There is not a single mall in North Carolin that has collapsed or even been damaged. Ft. Bragg and Seymour Johnson AFB are the two military bases inland and this is not a big event away from the Outer Banks. Just some rain and wind for most of Eastern North Carolina.

Likely a FLASH MOB EVENT gone awry.

That was Berkeley Mall in Goldsboro which is some 70-75 miles inland from Newport, NC. And it wasn't the entire mall just a portion.

From what I can find, part of the roof of the Goldsboro Mall caved in, not the entire mall. Water pools in depressions on those ubiquitous mall flat roof designs. One little opening in the roof turns into an indoor rain event.

I’m sure this storm is generating a lot of tornadoes.
