One thing’s for certain — Texas Gov. Rick Perry has made an impressive charge in the polls since he announced his candidacy for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination early this month. So how does a guy like Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, take him on?
In an appearance on Friday’s “NewsHour” on PBS, New York Times columnist David Brooks explained that Romney will have to “do something aggressive” to remain formidable.
“He has only been in the race a couple of weeks but the polls moved to a degree that is almost unprecedented. He has catapulted and catapulted along all wings of the party. He is the guy they were waiting for — somebody who has a harder edge. Somebody who has very strong conservative credentials but who has been elected, run a major state, and I think Mitt Romney has to be thinking ‘I’m an outsider now. I’m behind and I have to do something aggressive to try to get back.’”

The fact is that until the border is sealed and manned the problem will not go away. Maybe if border States got some cahones and bill the Feds 350+ million for housing illegal criminals like Perry has, we might get some action. Frankly I want our troops out of the ME and on the Mx Border.

Obviously we should eliminate legal visits by foreigners. Going beyond that we need to create a militarized zone along the Canadian and Mexican borders ~ and to avoid federal/state federalism issues those zones should be carved out of Mexico and Canada!
As I've pointed out numerous times (with numbers, timetable, headcounts, etc.) all the illegals can be sent abroad in under 6 months.

No one wants to do the jobs illegals do. You want to pick onions for 10 hours in 102 degrees for minimum wage (or less)? I don’t know anyone that does. There is a place in this country for work visas for Mexicans; otherwise, onions would be $6/pound. I don’t know anyone that wants to pay that either. The problem is legal Mexican workers versus illegal Mexican workers. But we can never have a rational discussion on the topic, like Perry says, until No. 1, people calm down and stop screaming at each other and, No. 2, we SECURE our BORDER, stopping the flood. That won’t happen until Perry is in the White House. Of all the candidates, he is the most knowledgeable about the problem, regardless of the intentional misrepresentations of “he’s for amnesty!” and “he said a border fence is nonsense!!!” Doesn’t help anyone, including your cause, Temper. Your cherry-picking his statements and laying them out out of context is meaningless and just makes you look like a child throwing a temper-tantrum.

Well honestly if you think there is a difference between Reagan being a high profile Democrat of influence in the entertainment industry, albeit without a political office in government, vs an election as a Democrat then I think you’re kind of nuts. There are some actors and producers that carry more influence over the government then sitting congressmen. Hell, don’t stop with the entertainment industry. There are any number of special interest groups on each side that hold more power then even one Senator.
I also think Brooks is nuts. So he believes Romney’s best strategy is to sit back and only in the event of Perry consolidating the base’s support AND presuming he sails through the debates then...THEN attack him as a corrupt? If Perry doesn’t implode of his own volition then by that point it would be far too late to attack him. The base will be emotionally committed and destroy him.
If Romney is going to take Mr. I Love pant crease’s advice then he would have to attack him before the base “marries” Perry. But obviously he doesn’t want to do that because they are still hoping Romney can continue this invisible primary he has had going and escape making any statement the elite would cringe at. And that might be a good stratgy, but only if Perry screws up in the next 3 weeks.
Since I’m rooting for Perry I’d prefer to see him consolidate consevative support as he has been doing and perform well in the debates. But I won’t take it for granted that will happen.

A friend an political ally of Governor Perry in 2000, sold him a half acre lot on Horseshoe Bay adjoining his lot for $300,000.00. In 2007, (SEVEN YEARS LATER, hardly a "flip") an appraiser hired by the Dallas Morning News , said the sale was undervalued by 150,000.00.
In 2007, Gov. Perry sold the lot for 1.15m to a Mr. Moffett (from Britian). That same appraiser hired by the Dallas Morning News said the sale was 350,000.00 overvalued. The bank appraiser said the sale was 100,000.00 UNDERVALUED.
A couple of observations....anybody who deals in real estate transactions (I'm licensed) knows they can get an appraisal for property just about anywhere they want it, especially in "hot"(active) markets. Appraisal disputes are a dime a dozen.
Moffatt denied anything improper occurred in the transaction. "It just happened that the governor of Texas owned that lot," he said. "It was a good deal for me."
Is there any charge (or evidence) that Mr. Moffatt wanted favorable legislation passed? NO. Is there any charge (or evidence) that Mr. Moffatt wanted a patronage job with the State of Texas? NO. Is there any charge (or evidence) that Mr. Moffatt wanted ANYTHING from Gov. Perry other than the land he bought? NO.
How DARE Gov. Perry (as a willing seller) make a profit on a sale (to a willing buyer).
Obama has the goods on him. That was signaled this week when the media started their love-fest. They've been given the go-ahead to pump Perry up in preparation for the reaming after the nomination.

One trustee is appointed by the governor from the three retired member candidates who are nominated by retired TRS members.
I guess you're implying that these teachers and retired teachers are somehow getting TRS money to Perry?
In 2000, when Perry took office, the TRS had more assets than it needed to fund retiree benefits for more than 30 years.
But by 2010, the TRS has an unfunded liability of $21.6 billion.
Ever hear of the DOT.com crash of 2000-2003 and the 2008 crash? The NASDAQ isn't even back up to half what it was 11 years ago. And how much interest does a bank CD or Money Market Fund return these days. The TRS got hurt just like everybody else did.

Tested by fire? Perry ran against weakling stink bugs every time. I only voted for him (twice) because he was the least odious of the bunch.That's a poor argument. If the opposition runs a weak candidate against you, that means that stronger opposing candidates decided not to waste their resources in a futile attempt at beating you.
