I remember the commercial. Funny, I always thought it was Coke that modified the hippie song, but your comment prompted me to look it up.

I seems Coke waived the royalty rights and the hippie generation used the song minus the phrase "I'd like to buy the world a Coke".

I learn something every day!

You know, I completely forgot that was a Coke ditty for so many years. It seems such a natural fit for the kook left that its origin completely escaped me.

I couldn’t stand it as a Coke song and can’t stand it as a leftist anthem. Oh well.
