There was looting after Katrina. In Japan they pull together... who knows what people will try to pull off in a disaster zone here...I’d like to think that we’ll be better than that...but I can’t blame people for wanting to carry concealed.
I get a little annoyed that people (not you in particular) keep comparing the disaster in Japan to the US. Actually there was looting. Katrina put a huge stain on the US. I blame the media.
There are many disasters in this country that are not publicized. The flooding in the Midwest...no publicity. The fires in the Southwest..no publicity. There was no story, because the populace took care of business and pulled together.
Even during Katrina, Mississippi handled their own. No publicity.
I will now return my soapbox to my closet. :)
We just saw the Midwest destroyed without looting and civil unrest. Katrina is a poor benchmark for the way people react to disaster.
The guys who took the TVs off the shelves (out of case) weren't all that smart. Ever wonder where WalMart sells their store display models? Hmm!
All good things come to those who wait.
It wouldn't bother me in the least if there were later stories of "looters shot on sight". It would surprise me, though.
