Reid Announces $4.6m for Electric Buses in Reno
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid ^ | August 26, 2011 | U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid

Posted on 08/26/2011 1:33:55 PM PDT by mdittmar

Las Vegas, NV – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced a $4,650,523 million grant for three electric buses in Reno that will travel from the Riverwalk District to the University of Nevada, Reno.  The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County will receive the funding for three 35-foot composite-body electric buses that will replace three diesel buses.

“These clean buses will extend the life of Reno’s downtown bus system for years to come, which is good news for tourists, college students and Nevadans commuting to and from work,” Reid said.  “The electric buses are designed for efficiency in Northern Nevada’s high desert climate and will help improve the health, environment, and well-being of residents and tourists in Reno.”

This project combines energy efficient, composite electric buses with fast-charging lithium ion batteries and fuel cell auxiliary power needed for air conditioning in high desert climates.

I know it’s silly to even ask, but what is the constitutional argument for having taxes gathered from all 50 states go to benefit (boondoggle or not) the people of Nevada?

Today I announced $50 for groceries at Sams Club. I also announced $45 for gasoline.

Once I get this "announcing" thing perfected, I'm going to announce several thousand for a cruise. I'll see how far that gets me.

Considering that it wasn’t that long ago that it was shown members of congress gain wealth at a much higher level than the average person, I just have to wonder how much of that bus company he might own?

Just what’s needed to help people get to cowboy poetry recitals.

That Harry — he thinks of everything.

1.5 mil for a bus. Man, you could get the best motorhome made for less than that. I bet the battery bank cost a million!

“Clean busses”? Try to avoid telling Harry where electricity comes from, you’ll hurt his feelings.

In my mind, this is more stupid pandering by Reid. Somehow, he must have some relative in electric charging stations or some other way to make himself look good.

As a Nevadan, I can darned sure say I would NOT have voted for this crap. (Nor did I vote for Reid by the way.)

I’ve searched everywhere to try and find who produces these busses. As no one want to fess up, I take it for granted that they are imports.
