NO PATAKI: Former New York governor George Pataki won't run for president and has opted out of a scheduled event in Des Moines Saturday
Former New York governor George Pataki has cancelled plans to attend a Polk County Republicans event in Des Moines Saturday, as he announces he won't seek the office of president.
Pataki had been scheduled to speak at the Polk County Republicans summer picnic at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Many expected Pataki to reveal he would run for president in 2012 at the picnic, but now sources close to him say he has decided against declaring as a candidate.
In a statement, Pataki explained his decision, "Today, my family and I have reached the very difficult decision not to seek the office of President of the United States... While I have chosen not to run, I remain committed to the cause and will support a candidate who offers the vision, the ideas and the leadership to bring an end to America's debt crisis."
Three other GOP presidential candidates are attending the picnic. Thaddeus McCotter, Ron Paul and Rick Perry are all scheduled to take part.
The picnic begins at 5:00 p.m. Saturday at the Iowa State Fairgrounds and admission is $25.
The sweet corn is a little past maturity anyway...
Huntsman breaths a sign of relief.
Hurrah!
Well put.
Um, did anyone think he was going to?
I’d like to make an official announcement myself:
[clears throat] I, DManA have decided after consulting my family, not to seek the Presidential nomination of the Republican party. Nor will I accept the nomination to be Vice President.
Thank you for your understanding in this manner.
I think he has us confused with the DNC.
George Pataki is a textbook example of what goes horribly wrong with Republicans once they hit higher office. Anyone remember his first governor’s campaign? He was all for cutting taxes and regulations and for about a year he did. By the end of his term he was jacking up spending like there was no tomorrow and cutting sweetheart deals with public unions that would make a Democrat blush.
That jerk ran as a “conservative” in NY after the discontent with Mario Cuomo reached epic heights. He started moving to the left the day after he got into office, and never stopped, until he stepped down in disgrace.
>>>Um, did anyone think he was going to?
You didn’t read the story... scroll back up, 3rd paragraph... smh...
I guess the polls his people undoubtedly took about his Presidential viability shook him out of his foggy delusion.
He neglected to create the required buzz. Nobody outside of Polk country knew or cared.
Good. He could see the handwriting on the wall. The field looks to be set and for that matter, it looks like the dominoes are all falling toward Perry but admittedly, it is early. Still this does seem somewhat amazing the steam Perry is gathering.
The only reason a George Pataki would let it be known that he was considering running for president would be to build some hype for a new book or television show. I doubt even he is delusional enough to think he has a chance or that anyone wants him to run.

The disappointment is palpable.
His supporters are going to be broken hearted...all five of them...
