This is for the New Bern/Morehead City area:
AS OF AUGUST 17TH...NEW BERN NC HAS RECEIVED A TOTAL OF 17.86 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION DURING 2011...WHICH IS 16.04 INCHES BELOW THE NORMAL PRECIPITATION OF 33.90 INCHES.
Given the doppler rainfall estimate I just saw... they’re (technically) all caught up now.
Air Force Recon just did a center pass and dropsonde in the center, over one of the sounds; pressure has actually DROPPED since landfall, back down to 950 mb.
If I heard the news report correctly, NC death toll now 3 from Irene.
Central Park in Manhattan just recorded its 5th highest all-time rainfall, at 8” I think it was, less than two weeks ago. It’s been a very wet August up here, so the ground is already saturated.
