Up here in NY and New England, we’ve already had a rain-soaked August. Also, we’re going to be right at the monthly high tide peak. Combine that with the way the surge gets compacted in and around NY and that she’s a relatively slow-moving hurricane and even a weak category 1 could deliver as much flooding as a category 4, they’re saying.
I realize how rain soaked y’all have been up there this month. But here in eastern VA and north east NC there has been very little rain all summer. There’s a huge swamp wildfire burning on the VA/NC border that they estimate will take a minimum of 6 inches of rain to get under control, let alone put it out.
Y all up there can send your rain from Irene to Texas, we’ll keep enough of it to put out the fire and give a drink to our dry ground, and we’ll send the wind out to sea!
