I guess all the federal agents who no longer have to worry about finding Illegal immigrants need to find something to do. Might as well harrass businesses that actually make things here about their raw materials.
And, in other news, Gibson announced they are moving production overseas meaning the loss of hundreds of jobs. /lol
In a related matter Gibson Guitars announces that they’ll be
moving to China.
Getting to the point, I think you earlier wanted to remark that the same federal government that shows such a lack of concern over ILLEGAL ALIENS is positively livid over ILLEGAL WOOD.
Hmm ~ whatever that means ~ not surprising at all about what's on Eric Holder's mind ~ criminals? wood? criminals? wood? ~ Fur shur that's a difficult choice for him.
Do these woods have a name?
When Les Pauls are outlawed, only outlaws will play Les Pauls.
Guess I’m safe, being as I play a Strat. :)
WTF do guitars have to do with fish and wildlife?
Ping!
don’t mess with the guitars, man.
Most likely some protected species of Central American mahogany. Too bad. Makes great sound boards for musical instruments, and beautiful furniture.
Some woods are endangered. The most famous in terms of making guitars is Brazilian Rosewood. It's been illegal to trade under CITES since 1992 unless you can document that the wood was cut before 1992.
As for moving production from Memphis or Nashville, if I were looking for a quality Gibson acoustic guitar, I'd be looking for that Bozeman, Montana label anyway - from the old Flatiron mandolin plant.
Gibson is still struggling financially from the Nashville flooding of a couple of years ago.
Got Wood? Not anymore.
Environmental reasons? What kind of an excuse is that? Since this is BS to begin with, they certainly won’t find anything they are looking for, since they’re not looking for anything except to hinder productivity.
I once bought a mint condition Gibson ES-175 electric guitar at a police auction for just $80. By coincidence, that night I saw an Elvis movie from the late 60s where he was playing that same guitar so I knew I had a winner. I later sold it for a nice profit.
Maybe it's a splinter group, deeply rooted in terrorism. That would really go against the grain in the eyes of the fed.
Typical belated government response. The Feds are about 60 years too late trying to stop the spread of the rock and roll virus!
I toured this Gibson factory in December. I didn’t see no stinking endangered wood.
This is outrageous that the Federal Government is now trying to destroy one of the few remaining successful U.S. manufacturers. I can’t imagine how wood is now considered “endangered” when a few more trees can just be planted. Eric “Nation of Cowards” Holder should be fired for this nonsense. Gibson should be rewarded for their industriousness and deserve better than this.
Special Agent Chavez recently had a mahogany floor installed in his home. He was assured by the salesman it was not "rain forest mahogany".
It was just poor illegal immigrant wood looking for a better life in the form of a geeeeetar.
Look behind the agents at whoever told them to do it. You’ll find family members, employees, former employees or other associates of a big business competitor against Gibson—probably a global outfit.
