There was a similar quake in 1897: Largest Earthquake in Virginia. Interestingly, they had aftershocks for about a week. As far as a 1000 year quake? DC would go back to being a swamp.

I read somewhere that the Sylvatus fault is the largest fault east of the Mississippi. Is that true? Maybe it is just the largest in Virginia. I know it runs through Carroll and Grayson counties. I would like to see a map of it.
