I'm confident that Professor Sowell will not dissociate himself from any claim that he is wise. Not because he isn't wise, but because he is.

The problem with claiming to be wise is that it leads to sophistry - which is a word which derives from the Greek "Sophist" which means "wise man." Instead it is wise to content oneself with the term philosopher which denotes a person who is open to facts and logic and does not engage in ad hominem logic.
