Maybe we need caucus threads for politicians, where people can talk about their own candidates without being attacked by other candidate supporters. The same rules could apply as for religion threads — participants could say all the good things they wanted about their candidate, but would not be allowed to attack other candidates in their caucus threads.

Imho, there’s a difference between a thoughtful criticism of a candidate and an attempt to use a thread regarding a candidate as a vehicle for recruitment.

Presuming that you are serious about caucus threads for politicians, wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of Free Republic as a CONSERVATIVE DISCUSSION board? If you would discuss instead of enflame, the responses might be different. Having been attacked on the pro-perry threads for stating facts, answering questions which get more and more outlandish as the facts become less refutable, and not once endorsing any other candidate, I would ask you how a caucus thread would have changed that...since the only subject was perry.
