Wrong-headded CAFE standards wiped out the excursion, and the heavy duty version of the suburban too.
The standards should focus on overall efficiency instead of raw MPG numbers.
Ton-Miles per gallon would make more sense than Miles per gallon, and actually might save us more fuel than the foolish MPG scam. (but it would also show how inefficient small cars are compared to large cars)

Ain’t that the truth. I like the ton miles idea. Clueless EPA is not ever going to be a help. Physics, and ingenuity and using them to get the most out of a gallon of gas. More cannot be had than physics and ingenuity allow. Despite what a clueless president and EPA want.
Physics also determines what is more important than gas mileage, and that is the force on occupants when a 1000 pound vehicle meets a 4000 pound vehicle in an accident.
