I was having my first cup of coffee and perusing the local paper Friday morning, when I spotted an ad from a sporting goods store about a half hour from me. Shouted at the wife "Keep the coffee hot", and jumped in the car. They were advertising Mosin-Nagant 91-30s for $74.99. I got there as the doors were opening, so I had my pick of the selection of about 20 rifles.
I already have a 1942 WWII production from the Izhevsk plant, so I was hoping to find a pre-war rifle from the Tula plant. Lo and behold, the first one that my eye was drawn to turned out to be a 1938 Tula! No dings, cracks, or gouges in the stock, no rust on any metal surfaces, rifling looks excellent. I went ahead and looked through the rest of their selection, but came home with that '38 Tula.
As soon as I can get her cleaned up I will head for the range to see what kind of shooter I found.
Excellent!
A few nice Mosin Nagant M44s showed up yesterday at the local gun shop, but I had already made a purchase.
I know I’ll be kicking myself latter as they are drying up, but thems the breaks.
I wouldn’t want Obama to put me on a list or anything for buying more than one gun in a week /s
I have a 1932 hex Izvhesta Mosin. Love that rifle.
