As governor of the state that shares the largest border with Mexico, Perry defended his record on immigration, including his support for allowing illegal immigrants to get in-state tuition rates at Texas universities but opposing such a law on a national level.
"I'm a big believer in the 10th amendment," Perry said. "Whether they allow for tuition increases or decreases or whatever it might be in that state, it needs to be the states making that decisions."
Perry wouldn't wade into a national immigration reform debate, deferring to his position that those decisions should be made on the state level, "not by the federal government making one size-fits-all."

Disturbing. Almost as disturbing as freepers defending laws that benefit and reward illegal immigration- in a state like Texas, too. Never thought I’d see the day
1) EVERY controversial issue on the planet (like gay marriage, abortion on demand) is the SOLE responsibility of the states and can be magically resolved if we simply "send it back to the states" and wash our hands of it (worked great for slavery). However, the EXCEPTION to this rule is Texas' ability to secure their OWN border. According to Perry groupies, that is COMPLETELY the federal government's job and Rick Perry shares absolutely NO blame for the zillions of illegals living comfortably and getting subsidized tuition. Texas has NO right to pass an AZ-style immigration law.
2) No one's record is perfect. So, if you dare criticize Perry's record in ANY way, or insinuate he did a mediocre job, you're a "purist" who wants "perfection"...or a skeevy Paultard, or you secretly want Obama to win. However, the EXCEPTION to this rule is Perry's endorsements. This means he's perfect, his record IS perfect, and if Sarah Palin endorsed Perry for Governor, that makes him the ideal Presidential candidate and anoints him as the second coming of Reagan.

Course, Perry does make a pretty picture, on all fours, all puckered
up, sucking up to Mexicans who all want Perry to be president.
Sr El Perrista receives a blanket from Mexican Gov Enrique Martinez of
Coahuila, as a token of appreciation for enacting the Texican Dream Act.
I liken those FReepers to the code pink clowns who aren’t protesting Obama.
Full of superiority till it comes to standing up to their boy.
Perry definitely looks like the worst of the bunch at this point.
He is far more devious than even Romney.
I will vote for neither because neither man represent my conservative ideals and I'm sure as hell not going to sell out to support another RINO.
"I think there is a path to citizenship for those young men and women ILLEGAL ALIENS who have served their country," Perry said.
THEIR COUNTRY?! Perry thinks America is THEIR COUNTRY?!
Perry wants to give ILLEGAL aliens citizenship
Yep...
“There really isn’t much difference between Rick Romney and Mitt Perry. I will vote for neither because neither man represent my conservative ideals and I’m sure as hell not going to sell out to support another RINO.”
BUMP
GREAT job South40! Keep ‘em coming! Not one FReeper who supports the fraud perryista has cared to counter one thing you said.....because they can’t. perryista’s terrible record is out there for all to see if they care to look. Look into this fraud’s muslim ‘problem’ also. You will not like what you find. His support for the people who’s ‘religion’ attacked us on 9/11 is beyond shameful. FReepers supporting an islam enabler? I never thought I would see the day.
Thank you Bobby. I know of Mitt Perry's islamic ties and will include that on my list of absolute reasons why Perry can not and should not be considered for the Republican nomination.
Not one FReeper who supports the fraud perryista has cared to counter one thing you said.....because they cant.
No they can't. How do you defend a man who says that America belongs to ILLEGAL ALIENS?
Perry is a fraud and his supporters have either been fooled into believing otherwise or they know it and just don't care. Either way, he is not a conservative, does not deserve the Republican nomination and I will do all I can to see that he doesn't get it.
Thanks again, my FRiend.
There is no low that Pandering Perry will not go. What a creep.
Thanks for the pings. This is a very good thread...pro and con. Thanks to all posters (yes, I read every post).
Horse hockey!
They can't afford not to.
Those illegals are easily costing 10 times more in medical care, education, and criminality, than it would to station the Texas National Guard on the border.
That's why I know these border state governors who talk about the billions and billions illegals are costing them (which is true), while they won't spend millions to put their National Guards on the border are being disingenuous.
It is not horse hockey, it is a federal responsibility to secure the national border. Besides the probability of the Obama Justice Department suing any state that tries it, why should any one state have to foot cost for a federal responsibility? Even if Texas did it and did not get sued by the feds, I would be willing to bet that the feds would put restrictions on the NG to make their presence basically worthless. I know it will never happen under Obama, but the feds have to lead on this. I think the federal government should use enough regular Army US troops to secure the US border until we can get enough Border Patrol agents recruited and trained to do it. BTW, Texas already has had their NG and the Texas Rangers on the border to help the feds.
