"Just look at his record on immigration, vaccines, accepting federal $$$, etc.etc."

I failed to format my post to make it easier for you to read. Here is how I intended it for you:

Immigration? There is good reason for his stand on immigration if good people would wade through the misinformation.

Vaccines? There is good reason for Perry's stand on Gardasil(made by Merck) if good people would wade through the misinformation.

Accepting federal $$$? That a new one I have not heard about. Give me the facts and save me a wade through the misinformation.

I'm not sure exactly what conservaterian was referring to.

But I'll throw in a bit on this topic.

First, all current politicians (governors, county commissioners, even mayors and city council members) are usually guilty of this.

The Constitution of the United States lists certain enumerated powers. These are the only areas where Congress is authorized to tax and spend taxpayer funds. Any spending outside those enumerated areas (General welfare doesn't count, that's an introductory phrase, not an actual enumerated power) is "Extra-constitutional."

The issue is the hypocrisy of state and local officials who cite the 10th amendment and claim to stand for states rights, but then accept (or even request) "federal grants" or "stimulus money" outside the enumerated powers delegated to the federal Congress.

Perry is guilty of this with regard to certain "stimulus funds" and other "federal grants" which Texas has accepted or even persued, in spite of the fact that Congress lacks the actual authority to spend federal tax dollars on these projects.

I'm not sure it's a strike against Perry that would prevent me from voting for him, but it does show that his "10th amendment" stand on founding principles is weak. He makes the argument when discussing the 10th amendment and the need to scale back the federal government, but in the past, he has been OK with Congress acting outside of the enumerated powers of Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution when it is to the benefit of his state.
