I’ve heard many liberals switching to RP. It’s not much of a philosophical leap. Libertarianism is NOT Conservatism. Not even close. There’s some similar ideas but it’s like a guy mumbling to himself and someone speaking on a hands free phone. Their both talking.. but there’s a big difference about what’s really going on.

You can bet RP has supporters running a booth again at this weekends Seattle Hempfest. And not one Lefty will be giving them a hard time. In fact they will welcome the booth, and treat the people as allies. Can you imagine though, if this was a booth for Bachmann, Perry, Palin, or any of the other Republican you could name? They would have to call in the Seattle PD to rescue them.

During the 2008 election we drove through Seattle most Liberal area on our way to a Husky football game. It was not Obama yard signs we were seeing everywhere. RP yards signs were everywhere. Even bumper stickers plastered on telephone polls.

I am a conservative/ libertarian.
For me the distinction is that I am a conservative without the traditional nanny state propensities.
I oppose gun control, drug control, and want to eliminate 90% of the government. Cut every department and agency that is not carrying out a Constitutionally enumerated power.
Life (at all stages) should be protected by the 14th Amendment, and marriage should be limited to one man and one woman through Constitutional Amendment. At a minimum states should not be required to recognize any other kind of “marriage”.
I would like to repeal the 16th and 17th Amendments, prohibition, and deregulate the energy industry.
Then amend the Constitution to impose term limits-one 6 year term (starting with the next president in 2013)- two four year terms in the Senate, and four two year terms in the House.
Also return commerce clause jurisprudence to what it was in 1900.
That would be a good start to restoring freedom and liberty.
