New EPA rule could lead to rolling blackouts in Texas, PUC chairwoman says

The head of the Texas Public Utility Commission expressed concern Friday that a new federal air quality rule, set to take effect Jan. 1, will cause disruptions in electric service.

If implementation of the Cross-State Air Pollution Rule is not delayed, "I have no doubt in my mind that this rule will result in reliability issues and rolling outages in Texas," Donna Nelson said at the start of the commission's meeting.

...

The company says the industry's standard time frame for installing emission controls is several years, but the rule requires compliance in six months. So Luminant, a subsidiary of Energy Future Holdings, has said it may have to shut down some coal-fired power plants in East Texas.

"Curtailing plant and/or mine operations will be the only option" if the 1,323-page rule goes into effect as planned, Luminant said.

No I was not a chief of the boat. My last boat was Blueback in 69 and went to shore duty, recruiting, in San Antonio. When I was to go back to sea duty as E-8, there were no diesel boats (except the B girls) for me to go to as an Engineman. I rode a DLG for 2 years as the SCPOC and then went to Sardinia, then to SubRonOne Pearl Harbor. I was a certified diesel inspector for NAVSECPHILA until I retired in 80. I was the MCPOC of SubRon1 and the diesel inspector so I rode the boats for the inspections and I also rode the Blueback and stood watches on the Engine Console Operator when I would ride the B girl. Smooth sailing.

Texas of all places should have the guts to tell the EPA where to go.

So, it’s so easy for us Freepers to gripe about things, but how do we get beyond the empty rhetoric and actually do something that would make realistic changes???? Is it going to be the Tea Party telling the GOP to kiss our rears????

Living here in Texas, I can tell you that our state is now full of plenty of voters who migrated here from the more liberal part of our country. I don’t trust them to vote correctly and stand by our traditional Texas independent values.

20 years ago, if you asked me if I thought there was a chance at secession, I would say heck yes. Now????

Texas is already on the case.

We are bringing old nat gas plants back online.

So Texas buckled under Obama's demands? That's a shame, I'd have thought Texas would have told Obama to F-off.

Political retribution.

If this happens Obama will not take responsibility for it and will use it against Perry should he be the nominee.

Zer0 HATES Texas. He is trying everything in the book to kill our economy.

Everything from banning oil drilling and ranching because of a friggin lizard to denying federal disaster funds to put out wildfires.

I'd rather we just secede. They can buy their oil from the Saudis or freeze in the dark for all I care.
