I have absolutely no problem with this for people of any nationality.
Foreign Nationals can and do serve in the US Military...Phillipinos have done so for decades.
But illegal aliens?? I cannot imagine how you would ever get past the recruiting station if you did not have valid citizenship, and who would be stupid enough to try??

I am very much against illegal immigration. I’d find it hard to not support giving green cards to illegal immigrants that have served in combat, but how did these people get in the military in the first place? Didn’t they have to commit fraud to get in? Proferring fake identification documents in order to enlist in the military is a crime, isn’t it? Isn’t it, in fact, a crime more serious than the simple act of crossing the border? Why reward people for committing identify fraud? I think we need measures put in place that ensure illegal immigrants currently in the military get kicked out, and that illegal immigrants can no longer get into the military.
How can someone who broke our laws to come here and continue to spit in our eye serve HONORABLY ANYTHING????

I remember decades ago while serving in Germany, many young German men signed up for getting into US forces, but they did so while on German soil.

There was a time when any foreigner who served in the US military was granted immediate citizenship. a DD214 was as good as naturalization papers and a birth certificate.

What Perry should be for is legal immigrants who serve in our military should have a faster path to citizenship than those who don’t.

Legal Immigrants who have passed through all legal requirements for permenant residence I can see granting citizenship too in exchange for military service IF several conditions are met first including, the ability to read & speak the English language at a U.S. high school level, an extensive back ground check with no security clearances/access above confidential given first enlistment, and citizenship only upon completion of obligated service with an Honorable Discharge. At no time should these waivers exceed 5% of the total End Troop Strength of any branch of service at any time. That number would likely be close to 50,000.

OTOH, those that are already in should be grandfathered - especially if they have served with distinction in Afghanistan and/or Iraq ...
Give them an extra bennie - full citizenship, IF they serve the FULL 20 years to retirement ...
Those that choose to get out before 20 years get an Honorable Discharge [if they have earned it] AND a free first-class ticket home [and a military escort to the airport] ...
