Authorities in Nogales, Ariz., this week shut down a 90-foot-long smuggling tunnel spanning the U.S.-Mexican border and arrested two men and a boy.

"Anytime you see electricity, ventilation and shoring, it's pretty sophisticated," said Vincent Picard, a spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Agents were conducting surveillance along the border Tuesday when they spotted a truck with Arizona license plates and noticed suspicious activity around it, according to an ICE press release.

Agents followed the truck as it left, pulled it over and discovered 2,621 pounds of marijuana inside. ...

The tunnel is about three feet wide and three feet tall, with half of it in the United States and half within Mexico, officials said. It's about four-and-a-half feet below street level ...

More than 50 smuggling tunnels have been found in southern Arizona since 2008, mostly in and around Nogales, Picard said. ...

50 tunnels just in AZ since Obama took over? There's plenty more out there we never hear about.

What’s with this? A ground pen satellite should spot them all in a couple of sweeps.

I used to have great fun in Nogales.

Its a shame that we’ve turned the border into a **** pit.

I agree. My folks sunbird to just east of Phoenix every year. And I’ve made the trip down to Nogales a couple of times from their FOB. But my bro reported his last time down to Nogales just went from stupid to ugly.

I doubt it. The geology of the border makes it very hard to dig a tunnel without making a lot of noise. Any border patrol worth its snot will have had listening devices in place, especially along the heavily trafficked Nogales district. They just waited until they had some live suspects to grab before shutting it down.

I may have found a flaw in your thinking…

I'm in San Diego so I'm not a stranger to these types of tunnels. It amazes me how often they are found at this level of sophistication with lighting, ventilation sometimes even rail carts.

This is the 11th tunnel since last October, and most of them have been discovered either by luck or the stpidity of the drug couriers. What I can’t understand is why the US military uses sophisticated devices to discover tunnels under the DMZ in Korea, but we are helpless when it comes to tunnels in Nogales.

Now just wait a doggone minute. Dianne Feinstein passed a law against this kind of shenanigans. The problem was supposed to be solved.

I can’t believe liberals can be so ineffectual.

On the other hand, she did get her name in the paper, so the law served its purpose.
