Southern slave owners cast votes on behalf of their slaves, albeit only 3/5 of them.

As I recall, the 3/5 rule did not apply to slaves having a vote, nor the slave-owners casting a vote for them.

Instead, it applied only to the census enumeration. Slaves were counted as 3/5 of a person for the purpose of apportioning Representatives. As a matter of course, this also impacted the Electoral College.

Correct. Slave owning states wanted to have slaves counted as part of the population to give them more voting clout over non slave states so the slave states could expand and preserve slavery.

This was opposed by non slave states in an attempt to prevent the slave states from winning votes to spread slavery to the new states and territories

I think the Point is that the Whole 3/5 representation was a Positive Not a Negative as it is Presented
