Prayer event email prompts new questions (Does message infer political help for Perry?)

AUSTIN — The organizer of The Response, the massive Aug. 6 prayer rally initiated by Gov. Rick Perry, is calling on attendees to help register millions of conservative Christians, prompting questions about the group and Perry's claims the event was not political.

Don Wildmon, founder of the American Family Association, sent an email Thursday thanking recipients for registering for The Response, which drew thousands of people to Reliant Stadium.

"Today, I want to introduce you to Champion the Vote (CTV), a friend of AFA whose mission is to mobilize 5 million unregistered conservative Christians to register and vote according to the Biblical worldview in 2012," Wildmon wrote.

The email does not mention any candidate or party, and experts said it appears to keep on the right side of the law governing nonprofits.

Mark Jones, political science professor at Rice University, said tax-exempt nonprofits can engage in voter registration, education and turnout drives. He added of the email, however, "It certainly highlights the political nature of The Response."

Denies link to politics

Perry's office and political advisers have insisted The Response was not a political event.

The black churches were instrumental in hosting Obama in their pulpits and in registering voters for him, were they not? And haven’t they always supported the Democrat candidates in that way?

Took the words right out of my mouth. Liberals have been getting a pass on this for years, but don't expect the same for conservatives. The non-stop attacks on Perry and Bachmann tell me the liberals are terrified of them. They have nothing to run on, so the scare tactics will continue.

First thing in the morning, and I find my candidate for the most stupid, convoluted, horse’s-ass article of the day.

Yoo-hoo! Houston zoo. We’ve found your missing link, and its name is Peggy.

No, they were not, and you never say there are four fingers when big brother tells you there are five...unless you want to take a trip to room 101.

So what, they are allowed to do this and they’d be fools not to.

We don’t have to get down in the gutter with the libs but there is no reason not to copy their tactics that work.

Two way street, folks, two way street.

Oh, so the letter was scrupulously non-partisan and that proves just how political the rally was. This is nonsensical.

You beat me! The Democrats have politicized black churches for decades.

And Clinton , and Jimmie Carter—and ? I have no problem with the Response announcing intent to call for Voter registration. American Christians ought be active and vote as John Hagee would say “the Bible.” Problem is we haven’t done very well in that respect—eh? I I likewise agree with the
professor it does seem to highlight the political intent of the event. The question I have Perry has yet to answer directly is what will he do to end Islamic expansion/encroachment on American soil—if elected.Pam Geller may have cited some association-but nothing “conclusive” I suggest the same was known of Barry Soetoro aka Barak Hussein ObamaII and his associations —the tree is known by its fruit and a man by his associations.
