Putin said back in 2005 that the breakup of the USSR was the 20^th Century's "greatest geopolitical catastrophe". So yes, it is entirely possible, especially since Putin's actions have been to restore this union, albeit in a non-communist (but very likely fascist) form.

It’s entirely possible. Since Obama was elected, the US has been throwing its longtime allies under the bus. There are people who would love nothing more than to reunite the USSR. There is less reason to think the US would do anything to stop that reunification; particularly if this country has an economic meltdown.

Indeed. Moreover, anyone who is old enough to remember the Soviet Union can find it easy enough to call it the Soviet Union...I hear people say it all the time.
