I grew up in a family business and understand the value of a buck. I understand how ‘unions’ are a hardship to a business but ALSO understand sometimes a union is a necessary evil due to the employer’s tactics. Most of the time a union is its own worst enemy.

I feel a company’s most valuable asset is its employees and mutual respect should rule the day. If a company isn’t performing well, the owner should come out on the floor and explain to its employees, open up the books and ask for help. And when times are good, pat them on the back and share in its rewards. It’s a simple matter of mutual respect.

But greed seems to overcome. An 8% return isn’t good enough, they want more.

Actually, *you* are the clueless one. Try turning off the TV and picking up an econ textbook. Or, better yet, try running your own business sometime. Your comment makes it abundantly clear that you know f**k-all about economics or business.

‘Fat Cat’ greedy bastards are constantly trying to reap in the millions and billions on the backs of the working guy.

I thought slavery ended in 1865.

Don't like workin' for The Man, huh?

Why not quit?

You know,

I was going to go into a lengthy, well thought-out, reasonable explanation, about the destructive nature of labor unions, but instead, I figured, what the heck, he won’t understand it anyway and it would probably just tick him off.

So instead, I decided to really boil it down for ya:

ALL UNIONS SUCK!

(peace, love and all that)

Will you all not be happy til all ‘workers’ earn a buck an hour?

I have no sympathy at all for union workers, particularly since unions tend to support the Dem politicians that got us into this mess.

Either the company reduces wages to fair market levels, or jobs move overseas.

Modern hobbing machines, also known as hobbers, are fully automated machines that come in many sizes, because they need to be able to produce anything from tiny instrument gears up to 10 ft (3.0 m) diameter marine gears. Each gear hobbing machine typically consists of a chuck and tailstock, to hold the workpiece or a spindle, a spindle on which the hob is mounted, and a drive motor.[3]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hobbing

Looks like the people attending these machines should be engineering students working part-time on their way thou an engineering program at around minimum wage.

Win-win deal, the kids can cut the cost of a University education, companies can compete with off-shore entities, and the customer get an local, well-made, and inexpensive product.

Somewhere along the line the students might also pick up a work-ethic suitable for full-time work after graduation, something probably not acquired at a union shop these days.

My guess is, however, it’ll never happen, the unions/govt will refuse to change until our economy is ‘face down in the gutter’ ala a drunk, before we, as voters, will collectively realize we need to change our ways.

Our friend worked for GM, 30yrs; his job was eliminated so he had a choice. Sit at work for 8hrs a day and get full pay or volunteer and get paid. So he being a hunter, volunteered for Parks Services for a year with full pay...75K a year to not actually work for his employer. They offered him early retirement after that- which he took..

So cry me a river.....88MILLION DOLLARS went to Obama’s campaign in 2008 from the SEIU ALONE...those are the Union dues of the workers that could go back to the workers to make up for lost hourly wages....

The most valuable asset is your dedicated employee. An asset is NOT the product you’re trying to sell for less sitting on a store shelf.

Communist Manifesto

Plank #8. “Equal liability of all to labor. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture. “

Americans call it Minimum Wage and slave labor like dealing with our Most Favored Nation trade partner; i.e. Communist China. We see it in practice via the Social Security Administration and The Department of Labor. The National debt and inflation caused by the communal bank has caused the need for a two “income” family. Woman in the workplace since the 1920’s, the 19th amendment of the U.S. Constitution, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, assorted Socialist Unions, affirmative action, the Federal Public Works Program and of course Executive order 11000.

Many small business owners earn less than their lowest paid employee nowadays.

Which is exactly why I also have to work for "the man" to make ends meet in addition to running a company.

Yep. Because of that, instead of saying "Look for the union label", they'll be saying "Would you like fries with that?"

My brother is a self- made millionaire.
HIgh school education & 20 hour days , 7 days a week & no social life for many years. Ability to ‘read the tea leaves’ better than the next guy & willing to take a flyer opening his own company with some others, only to buy them all out as they decided to retire, etc.

He used to say that not one person in 100 was qualified to sign the FRONT of a paycheck.

Today I tell him that has become not one in 1000 are qualified to do so.
