For those that don't remember or were too young, Back in the 1980's Bernard Getz was the New Yorker who four "urban youths" made the mistake of trying to rob. He promptly unloaded a .38 caliber revolver into them. Saying to one of the robbers as he fired the last bullet, "You don't look so bad here's another."
He was acquitted of all the major charges against him, including attempted murder and first-degree assault. The only thing he was convicted of was possessing an unliscensed firearm, he went on to become a minor celebrity.
I was working in NYC at the time it happened. I have been mistaken a number of times for Bernie Goetz. Among average people there he had a lot of support.
If you could imagine if Bernhard Goetz had a brother that looked like someone who played running back or defensive end, that describes me at the time.
