Rick Perry has counted on the staunch support of Texas conservatives during his two decades of statewide triumphs in Texas. He’s an anti-tax, anti-spending, anti-regulation, anti-Washington stalwart.
Richard A. Viguerie, chairman of ConservativeHQ.com and a leader on the right since the days of Ronald Reagan, called Perry a “committed conservative” whose presidential announcement “brought a wave of relief to conservatives.”
Then why are some conservative bloggers and activists warning others on the political right about a Perry presidential candidacy?
“Before Republicans start salivating too heavily, it is important to examine Perry closely,” says conservative talk-show host David Zublick. “His conservative bona fides leave much to be desired.”

Well, no. Palin would NOT be at a La Raza meeting because she doesn’t and never has had a problem with Mexicans at her border. I realize you are wetting yourself over that meeting. It’s kind of like what if Bush had met with Castro....the fact is, Perry turned his back on Bush’s border policies and needed to explain them to the Mexican-American lobby in Texas. He doesn’t give a rats rear about La Raza. I hate to tell you, but people in politics have to do some pretty awful things in their appointed jobs. No purist, not even Reagan, gets elected without doing so.
I teach history in college. I am not affiliated with his campaign in any way. I have known him all my life. He’s a good man. I adore him and will not sit by why he is slandered. That’s all.
I don’t get your point. We would all be better off with that vaccine added to the other mandated vaccines. It prevents cervical cancer in women. Without the “mandate,” we have to pay for it out of pocket. It’s $360. No one is going to do it. Cervical cancer will continue. I was wrong about the thing when it happened, too, just like everybody else. Now that I’ve learned what happened, I’m ashamed. It’s terrible that the issue was so complicated, because it is not easily explained unless people do their due diligence. No one does their due diligence. It’s all sound bites and “Gardisil” and OMG he forced needles into girls’ arms. Pitiful.
What they admit is that it prevents the most common form of cervical cancer. Skew how you must. Due diligence be damned. I’m done.
Romney, huh? More like Palin or Rubio, but whatever, Cajun. It must really be frustrating to be on the losing side so often. Perry is a good Christian man. And you’re wrong about him. Good night.
Excuse me, you are NOT affiliated with his campaign???? You have slashed and trashed anyone and everyone who is NOT gulping up the 'God' sent Perry as the second coming. I do NOT care how good he is, there is NOT one perfect human walking this earth. And I have lived through three Texan presidents, so, being from Missouri, the 'show me' state am NOT going to be 'seduced' by fast talking/walking politicians. AND your methodology of protecting his previous democrat ways is NOT helping him look 'good'.

Yes, since moving to Texas a few years back, I have been paying attention to some of the educational changes Rick Perry has been making. I know you are talking about Rick Perry’s fight for conservative textbooks which is of a political interest for sure.
What I have found interesting is something that may not be necessarily political, but it has helped me understand and EXPERIENCE the treasure that is possible when a people are blessed with Christian leadership as we here in Texas. The public schools here are even blessed by such Christian leadership.
For instance, the Fort Worth ISD (Independent School District) routinely refers pregnant teenagers to a private Christian pregnancy center where they receive Christian support, a SONOGRAM, and help. This is a private, Christian, pro-life agency, and it is funded by churches and private individuals. Yet here in Texas, at least in Fort Worth, it is OK for the school system to refer their students there... and they DO it!
Also, while we home school, or should I say HAVE home schooled since all mine are either now in or through college, my husband teaches private music lessons in one of the public schools here, and he has other things (workshops, adjudications, judging music competitions, etc) that he does with some of the local public schools here in Texas. We are STILL amazed at how he gets emails from teachers in PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEMS who have some sort of Scripture or Christian saying as signatures on their school emails.
In Virginia, we had a young man who was kicked out of school for three days because he was wearing a witness wear t-shirt to his high school and refused to take it off or turn it upside down. In Texas, my husband says his kids come in all the time with witness wear — t-shirts, hats, etc.
I loved Virginia when I lived there, and I miss Virginia a lot, but if we ever more from Texas, I am so going to miss the liberty and freedom we have here. I have EXPERIENCED it, and it is something I wish could be for others who would appreciate that same freedom to be who they really are, wherever they may be, and that includes the schools.
PS, Texas is a right to work state, so the teachers here are NOT unionized. I’ve never heard any of them complaining (except when Wisconsin was having all that junk going on and the teachers here were telling them all in baited breath to GO BACK TO WORK!

This whole conversation started when you said that Gardasil was not a vaccine for an STD. That is patently untrue.
I said he didn’t mandate it for STDs. Don’t mislead. Good night.

The point is, he didn’t bow to the will of the people as he claims. The reversal was shoved down his throat and he reacted by attacking those who supported repeal as “shameful” spreaders of “misinformation” and lionized himself and the few legislators who supported his unilateral demand saying: “They will never have to think twice about whether they did the right thing. No lost lives will occupy the confines of their conscience, sacrificed on the altar of political expediency.”
It isn’t political expediency for representatives of the people to act in accord of the people’s wises.
It is also dishonest to now claim “I agreed with their decision. I don’t always get it right, but I darn sure listen,” and say “One of the things I do pride myself on, I listen. When the electorate says, ‘Hey, that’s not what we want to do’. “We backed up, took a look at what we did. I understand I work for the people, not the other way around.” When he did nothing of the kind.
I understand what you’re saying. I do. If Perry had had it his way, he would have had it go through because it was the right thing to do. It gave people the option of getting the vaccine, and having insurance pay for it. This was the only way. However, the people rejected it based on the MSM BS, the legislature refused it, and instead of continuing the fight — like he always does (numerous examples) — he accepted the legislatures decision. He apologized for his “misstep.” He knows, and those of us who understand the issue know, he was right. But he accepted their decision instead of belaboring it. The people had spoken.

It doesn’t sound like he accepted the decision. Which to be very honest, would be fine with me if he now said; “I thought the people and the legislature were wrong and I still think they were wrong, but I also recognize that I didn’t do a good job of explaining why it was the right thing to do before I did it. I mistakenly thought everyone would see it as I did.”
I’d be defending his position just like I defended him saying abortion is a state issue.
What I have a problem with, in this case is his trying to spin what happened. I don’t like that and don’t trust people who do it.
There was a time when I liked Perry. When Bush got nominated I said that the silver lining in Bush being nominated was Perry would replace him as governor and we would have a conservative governor instead of a fake conservative.
Over the years I’ve changed my mind about Perry based on what he’s done as governor. Most of those reasons I’ve posted on various threads.
However, I try to be fair and defend him if I would defend the act if done by someone I support. But I will not defend acts I disagree with.
I do want to thank you for being civil. More and more we are seeing people in almost every camp who are not civil and that is not good. Hopefully, things will not get as bad as they were before Bush’s regime.
