Total jobs. Texas: Up 0.7 percent since the beginning of 2008. U.S: Down 5.6 percent. Since the recession began, Texas has added about 75,000 jobs, one of the few states with any job creation at all. Overall, the U.S. economy has lost about 5.6 million jobs since then. But net job gains in Texas have come entirely from government hiring, which accounts for 115,000 new jobs over the past three years. The private sector in Texas shed about 40,000 jobs during that time.
Federal government jobs. Texas: Up 7 percent. U.S.: Up 4.3 percent. Nationwide, the federal government has been a steady source of job growth over the last three years, and Texas has gotten more than its share, thanks to several big Army bases and a heavy NASA presence. Texas is one of the biggest beneficiaries of Washington spending, which pumps more than $200 billion per year into the state economy, according to the New York Times. That reliance on federal money could backfire if there are cutbacks in military and space spending in coming years, as many analysts expect.
State government jobs. Texas: Up 8.4 percent. U.S.: Down 0.1 percent. While other states were furloughing workers, Austin was hiring. The prominence of the energy sector, which accounts for about 10 percent of the Texas economy, is one reason, since taxes paid by the booming oil and gas industry have generally drifted upward over the last decade. Texas also accepted $6.4 billion in stimulus money from Washington, according to the Washington Post, which helped support employment in education, health care and various parts of government.

Rick Perry.....creating bureaucrats err... jobs... the Obama way.
From what I understand, his Lt. Governor did all the work.
Rick Perry SCREAMS RINO...
I read the article or whatever the hell that was.
Perry did not create any jobs. We Texans did that on our own despite Perry.
Perry sucks! He is a RINO. But compared to Obama Perry is a genius that farts jobs and bricks of gold. Go Rick “The RINO” Perry!
The more you know the more you see Bush 2 is just a typical big government Republican.
I don't know who wrote that falsehood, but I live in Houston, Texas and work in the energy industry and we have been hiring throughout Obama's recession... even though he killed the deep water Gulf of Mexico future projects.
Just more MSM PROPANGDA! Ignore it.
OK...help me out here.
The article says that Texas has created ONLY government jobs, right? But then, in the bullets afterwards, it lists jobs like retail jobs, which have increased 1.9% in TX while falling 7.2% in the US. I’m pretty sure retail jobs aren’t government jobs (and there are several other categories that don’t seem to be government-related which show increases while the US rate has fallen). Doesn’t that mean that jobs have been created in the private (such as retail) sector?
And I love how the 1.9% growth is dismissed as ‘flat’. If unemployment doesn’t fall, but holds steady, the media praises Obama to the sky for his ‘unprecedented’ gains. Ergh.
someone has done some creative work on these jobs numbers - 18% of the 300,000 jobs are in the Oil and Gas biz - see if you see data in this story that would account for 50,000 jobs.
Let’s just vote for Obama in the fall & kiss the country & personal liberty goodbye. Whatta yall think?
Texas has been a JOB and BUSINESS diverse state for decades... Perry has had little to nothing to do with the long term continued job picture in Texas... Banking, Finance, Manufacturing, Oil/Gas Drilling and Processing and Pipe Lining, Semi-Conductors, Computers, and a million other things keep Texas going ... Governors come - Governors go... Legislatures come Legislatures go... but Texans are here to stay .... along with 2000 people who move here from other states - EACH MONTH...!!!

I am ignorant of the facts on the ground but I think it is important to get the other side of the story on the record.
It’s not propaganda it’s true.
Oil and gas, healthcare, private education jobs up.
Manufacturing,information and construction jobs down.
Net loss of jobs in private sector.
But tons of new government drones!
There's an important caveat, however, that the Texas governor is unlikely to volunteer: Virtually all of those new jobs are in the government sector, not in private enterprise.
Yep. Figures don't lie, but liars figure. MSM all LIE.
My sentiments exactly.
Healthcare jobs. Texas: up 12.6 percent. U.S.: Up 6.2 percent.
Private education jobs. Texas: Up 17.4 percent. U.S.: Up 6.5 percent.
Oil and gas jobs. Texas: Up 6.7 percent. U.S.: Up 4.5 percent.
Retail jobs. Texas: Up 1.9 percent. U.S.: Down 7.2 percent.
No thanks. You go ahead and vote for Obama, I’m voting for Sarah Palin.
Unlike the establishment’s chosen candidates, Romney and Perry, there is no chance the base stays home with Palin as the nominee.
The Tea Party and all types of conservatives will have no reservations voting for Palin.
That’s why us Palin supporters don’t have to resort to stupid scare tactics like “vote for my guy or obama will win”
I believe that.

..... if Palin does not run but Perry does, hed probably suck all the air out of the race. Either way, ..... Perry would all be excellent alternatives to Obama the commie. Anyone but RINO Romney the big government chief architect of CommieCare! Posted on Friday, July 01, 2011 10:13:29 AM by Jim Robinson
