I didn’t say this was Palin’s website. I said this was a Conservative website and it doesn’t belong to any single candidate (although back in early ‘08, at least, we were “FredRepublic”, and if you put a “D” in place of the second “E” in “Free” you would be directed here). Do you concede in an honest way that there are enough red flags where Perry is concerned for us to question his credentials ?

You believe he is Conservative, but I think it is more that you WANT to believe he is. We’ve been used and abused by pols (Democrats, without saying, but so many Republicans, too) that we want someone to believe in who will get us out of this mess. Personally, we put too much faith in politicians. We shouldn’t. We need to put it more in the Lord and Jesus. Would Perry be better than Zero ? Perhaps, but again, he’s being compared to the worst that ever made it to the White House. The bar is pretty low here.

Set aside everything else, I see Perry as too squishy and too opportunistic. I don’t care who you are, I don’t like politicians like that. There’s too damn many of them. Plus, I don’t chain myself to the Republican party. If they’re in the wrong, at least leadership or some candidates, I’m not going to sink with them. If I go down, I go down with my principles. If that pisses off everyone else, so be it. I know what it’s like to be the only one in a room on the opposite side from the rest. I do it because it’s right, not popular, because eventually I know the sane folks will figure it out. Even if they don’t, He’ll judge me for it, and I do try to be on His side.

As for Jim Robinson, if you wish to speak to him, just put his name in the box and talk or contact him privately, whichever your preference.

ABSOLUTELY.

ABSOLUTELY.

He should be vetted and vetted and vetted again, as all candidates should. My problem with the vetting process thus far on FR is that no one is listening. Sound bites are being snagged and people are going bolistic. It's rather unfair for northern candidates, who do not have to deal with 64% of America's Mexican border, to get a pass on the issue, while Perry, who has worked his rear off to manage the situation that should be Constitutionally handled by the federal government, to be crucified. We Texans are proud of what Rick has done for us. And yes, we are conservatives. We are part of the South! He has not been treated fairly. It's as bad as Palin was treated by the MSM. It's awful. No one is giving him a chance to explain the nuances and how it WORKS............sigh.............

but yes, I believe he should be vetted. I believe he will be elected not on his failure at the vetting of his record, but because of his record. I believe that.

Jim's stated before that Perry would be an acceptable candidate to him. No major hat throw into his corner by any means, but he's made clear that Perry isn't on his sh!tlist. There's a few posters that have been using one of JRs quotes to that effect. (I'd ping them but I just remember reading this somewhere in passing.)

Anyway, I'm from California, not Texas, so I don't claim any direct knowledge of Perry. As an outsider who's main link to the conservative world is through here, I'll say that there is simply no comparing what kind of horned, cloven hoofed monster Perry is being made out to be in the liberal media, versus the horned, cloven hoofed RINO he's on some of these pages.

For a guy that seems rather plain, either he's got a master Machiavellian streak that is throwing all for a loop, or we just need a little more time to process what he's about. He may be weaker than I'd caer for on the borders, but his response about 'concealed carry' today at the fair about had me laughing my ass off.

Anyway, once he gets the full Palin press colonoscopy, I'm sure we'll know quite a bit. I imagine it won't be as good as we hoped or as bad as we feared.

It's not a question of IF he is conservative. Any honest person that knows his politics knows he is a conservative. The question is, is he conservative ENOUGH. And that has to be answered by the individual. Each person must ask where is their comfort zone?

He's my ideal conservative. But like I said, with the exception of Romney, I'll take any one of them. Heck, I'll even take Romney over Obama, I think.
