CULLMAN, Ala. On a sofa in the hallway of his office here, Mitchell Williams, the pastor of First United Methodist Church, announced that he was going to break the law. He is not the only church leader making such a declaration these days.
Since June, when Gov. Robert Bentley, a Republican, signed an immigration enforcement law called the toughest in the country by critics and supporters alike, the opposition has been vocal and unceasing.
Thousands of protesters have marched. Anxious farmers and contractors have personally confronted their lawmakers. The American Civil Liberties Union and other civil rights groups have sued, and have been backed by a list of groups including teachers unions and 16 foreign countries. Several county sheriffs, who will have to enforce parts of the new law, have filed affidavits supporting the legal challenges.
On Aug. 1, the Justice Department joined the fray, contending, as in a similar suit in Arizona, that the state law pre-empts federal authority to administer and enforce immigration laws.
And on that same day, three bishops sued.

The issue is the raping of our national economy by illegals, who break every law on our books. The Slimes (which hates Christianity and mocks it at every opportunity) is attempting to present liberal churches opposition to Alabama's new immigration law (modeled after Arizona's) as true Christianity!
As Christ said: "Don't be deceived." This is all about protecting illegals so that they vote for Democrats - period.
Read the rest of the article and you will hear desperation behind the Slimes' words. They know that if illegal immigrants can be opposed, the Democrats lose illegal votes - votes that Obama and the Democrats desperately need in 2012.
Very soon, military veterans retirement as we know it may be a thing of the past.

Active duty military pay may be frozen. DoD civilians (even those who are deployed to war zones along with active duty) pay may be slashed 5% and their three year pay freeze extended to five years. The DoD will automatically take 50% of the automatic cuts when the "Super Congress fails to reign in Entitlements (and they won't reign them in - trust me). Instead, they will kick those to the curb who have fought and bled for this country.
Troop retirement, health care may be eyed for cuts
Illegals have bankrupted Medicaid. They have filled our jails. Their DUI drivers have killed and maimed our citizens. They have ruined the educations system in many communities. They suck up Welfare, Section 8 housing, and even unemployment checks. Millions of them collect Food Stamps. And none of those benefits were even touched in the "debt deal" reached earlier this month!
Something has to change. The NY Slimes, Obama, and the Democrats want illegal criminals to gain even more at the expense of the truly deserving.
It is disgusting and outrageous.
If only the Church had some controlling legal authority to rein in out-of-control American bishops!
This is where the Church and I disagree...vehemently.
“Bishops Criticize Tough Alabama Immigration Law”
Shove it up your rectory.
When the Church wonders why some of us (a lot of us) don’t give a dime to the second collection when it goes to the Bishops’ Stewardship Appeal, I would direct them to the photos posted above.
Believe me, this is still Alabama: the vast majority of churches and church-goers are behind this new law fully. The liberals invade the liberal churches, too.
If these Bishops want illegals in this country then they should be required to put them up in their own homes, feed them at their own table (and from their OWN wallets) pay for insurance coverage and pay to sent them to private (read - NOT taxpayer funded) schools. Then, and only then, do they have any credible leg to stand on. Bishops don’t pay taxes so I don’t imagine they give a flip - it is NOT their money supporting illegals.
I am sorry I posted same story but link only. I ran it through FR serach and nothing came up so-posted link only. Since my link is not needed and this link provides greater information, maybe they can delete mine.Again I am sorry.. Here is my reply..I sick and tried of hearing these churches bemoan our laws essentially criminalizes basic parts of Christian ministry.
I have not seen one of these churches, say it is wrong to use documents that are fake or stolen. They know the illegals must use fake or stolen documents or work for cash, it cannot be any other way. I have not seen these same churches, say anything about illegals filling out I-9 tax forms using all their dishonest imformation coming from fake or stolen documents. I have NOT seen same said churches say, it is against the law to drive without a license and insurance. They cannot begin to justify breaking the law just because someone is in bad shape financially and/or doesn’t want to get a job legally. They say welcome the stranger like it is just one person, but I never saw any where, it said welcome I will say 15-25 million strangers .This has 4 pages please read and see what you get out this. I wish these churches would understand there are other moral apsects in life to follow, not just the ones they cherry pick to feel good about.
thanks everyone !
Most Catholics know when the Church shouldn’t be intruding in secular affairs. This is definitely one of those times. I hope the dioceses of Alabama have a rainy-day fund...they’re going to need it.
can’t these bishops just pray for the nation just STFU?
great points!
and Jesus certainly didn’t advocate breaking the law.
the Bible even told Christian slaves to be obedient and not run away.
and Jesus CERTAINLY didn’t advocate stealing money from other families !!!
17 billion a YEAR in Texas. 21 billion a YEAR in CA.
Time to start yanking some tax exemptions.
Think Team Obama will offer them all a church bailout , but call it something else ? I agree they will need it .People are fed up with them. The same churches will not do this much for all the legal people who have no jobs there or much hope in finding one.But be illegal and they roll out the V.I.P. carpet cater to all your needs.
Heck they cannot even get the child abuse priests who are out-of-control American bishops! They just transfer them.
Don’t go there unless you want me to post abuse stats for Protestant churches.
Good summary. Liberal churchmen of all stripes only seem to be for law breaking when it comes to illegal immigrants. There are genuine injustices all over America that they never come out and say “break the law”. If illegal immigrants took their jobs they would be singing a different tune. These preachers are not impacted by offshoring, outsourcing and illegal immigration.
Cynical people will say these churchmen just want to full pews with immigrants and are addicted to “reaching out” even if that person is here illegally and is engaged in ID theft, welfare theft and other scams
I’ve been wondering for a long time. I’ve never read it spelled out in so many words... but, did the ecclesiastical rot really kick in with the lowlifes who entered the seminaries to get out of the Vietnam-era draft and stayed in the priesthood because it was a phat living that allowed them to spread the liberal gospel from the pulpit AND all the young altar-boys they could molest?

Actually, the illegals are not so much to blame as idiots like these three in our society who assist, aid and encourage them.
That is a fair question, certainly about the liberal pulpit, not so much about the homo angle.
This I do know...priests do drink copious amounts of alcohol. The lifestyle, especially celibacy has a lot to do with it IMHO. I remember on “Vocations Day” in the seventh grade in parochial school, the girls spent the day at the convent and the boys went to the seminary.
They had a bar at the seminary, complete with commercial beer coolers that would rival a well heeled VFW or American Legion Post.
